Sportsman`s Brunch on Sunday 9th October
Author: Jason Barber Date: Tuesday, 27th Sep 2005Lauder College Business Learning Centre is the venue, due to the size of the event planned. Over 200 tickets have been sold already for what promises to be a Sunday afternoon with a big difference!
The Brunch event is being hosted by Jim Leishman, who is joined by after dinner speakers: John Htet Khin and Bert Allan.
As well as a cash prize superdraw for £2,005 on the day, there are countless raffle prizes to be won, including a signed Pars top for someone at every single table on the day!
Auction items on the afternoon include signed tops from most of the SPL clubs, as well as Manchester United, Everton and Bolton Wanderers from down South amongst others.
The Centenary Club was established in 1985 as a body to provide financial help to DAFC, based on the Bolton Wanderers lifeline that was set up the previous season.
Now its 20th season of supporting Dunfermline Athletic, the Centenary Club has donated over £625,000 in cash donations to the football club, as well as a further £125,000 in hospitality that has been purchased in recent seasons.
Members since 1985 have now taken away more than £700,000 in prizes, as well as one offs such as a car and a trip to the World Cup Finals.
Membership peaked at over 1,000 in 1990 and is slowly rising again today with membership above the 500 mark. The more members who join, the more regularly donations can be made to the football club.
Subscriptions remain the same today as they did in 1985, £104 a year or £8.66 a month.
Tickets for the Sunday Brunch have been made available to all Centenary Club members now for some time, and over 200 have now been purchased.
Due to the size of the function suite, many more can still be seated at the event. Tickets are priced at just £25 for a day that includes the following:
Full cooked brunch menu with various meat, fish and continental options available.
Complimentary bottle of beer/glass of bubbly on arrival.
Guaranteed signed Pars top for every table of 10.
Top class entertainment from the two speakers on the day.
All hosted and held together by the one and only Jim Leishman!
It is a free club weekend, with Scotland having played Belarus the day before.
Numerous Pars players from the past and present have been invited along, and those who will be there on the day include:
Roy Barry
Ian Westwater
John Watson
Dave Young
Hugh Whyte
Harry Melrose
Alex Edwards
Paddy Wilson
The current players and coaching staff will also be in attendance on the day.
So, if you want to have a Sunday afternoon with a difference and guarantee yourself plenty of laughs, please order your tickets from the Centenary Club office at East End Park or email Jason@dafc.net
Hopefully many new members will sign up on the day in order to keep those cash donations going to the football club for at least another 20 years to come.
