Can you help us , help the Pars?

Author: Stephen Taylor Date: Monday, 14th Nov 2005

The Pars have a chance to see at close quarters a trialist from the USA in the next few weeks, if we can get him over here!

Every Pars fan knows this has been a very difficult season, so far, with injuries an suspensions causing havoc with Jim Leishman’s team selections. The fact that Jim has one of the smallest squads in the SPL has made this situation all the more troublesome. But, the simple fact is the football club is still in a deep financial low and adding to the squad will not be easy when the transfer window opens.

However, there is an opportunity for supporters to help bring a highly rated overseas striker to East End Park in the course of the next few weeks for a trial. Frequent visitors to our Football Forum may recall a post put up by one of our regular contributors, “Long Beach”, about a player who is playing in the west coast of the USA and is a potential signing target for one of the top “soccer” clubs.

Long Beach believes this striker has the ability to play at SPL level and the player is interested in coming to Dunfermline. He is someone who would regarded as first team material at East End Park. It would be great to give you a full biography for this player but at the moment it would be preferable if other clubs were not alerted to this player until the Pars have given him the once over. Jim Leishman has been given full details and has offered the player a two week trial. As soon as he is here, full details will be published.

The only problem is getting the player over here. He is from a modest background and simply could not afford to pay for his own air ticket to Scotland. Understandably, the football club are unable to help given their own financial situation.

So, the question is “Can you help us, help the Pars?”. The Pars Supporters Trust is prepared to underwrite the cost of the air fare but would welcome any donations or contributions. A number of DAFC.Net contributors did respond to “Long Beach’s” post volunteering financial assistance. If you can help you can send your donation to the Pars Supporters Trust, East End Park, Halbeath Road, Dunfermline. Alternatively, please visit www.parssupporterstrust.co.uk and use the online payment facility using Pay Pal.

There is a degree of urgency about this as the player will have other signing opportunities in the USA. Also, to assure everyone this is a genuine situation, “Long Beach” is very well known to the Board of the Pars Supporters Trust and is also well known to the current coaching staff at East End Park.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
