Fergie looks set to find a new club

Former St Mirren, Rangers and Dunfermline Athletic midfielder Ian Ferguson is currently eyeing up a possible move to Australian outfit Northern Spirit.

The ex Pars captain did appear to be staying in Fife towards the end of last season, when he decided to sign a new one year contract with the club. However, due to family reasons he changed his mind, and told the club that he would be moving to pastures new come the end of May.

Tough tackling Fergie had been linked with a move to the same club last year, but instead he decided to stay at Dunfermline and captain the first team for a third consequitive season. Speaking of his move down under he said - "It's not just down to football. If football comes up then fair enough, but if not then we'll still make a life for ourselves down their". However, no deal has been finalised yet.

Fergie was one of Jimmy Calderwood's first signings at Dunfermline, and when fit, he was almost certainly one of the first names on the team sheet. His last appearance for the Pars came in the 1-1 draw at East End Park against Rangers on the last game of last season - a match in which Ferguson was substituted before the 90 minutes were completed. Ex Manchester City midfielder Gary Mason has been given the number eight jersey for the 2002/03 season - a role that could be dificult to fill.

DAFC.NET would like to wish Ian Ferguson all the best with his new footballing career overseas.
