John Lunn

Date: Friday, 26th Dec 2003

Signed by Jock Stein in September 1961 from Blairhall Colliery, John Lunn went on to form a very successful full back partnership with Willie Callaghan.

He made his first team debut in a 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock in April 1963, and played in some of the club’s biggest games in the sixties. He played in the 1965 Cup Final against Celtic, and again in the 1968 final against Hearts, where he had the misfortune to score an own goal. Dogged by illness, John was forced to retire from the game in December 1972, having made 347 first team appearances including 29 in Europe. John died from leukaemia in December 1973.
