“Heroes of Halbeath Road

Recognising the past and present heroes of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club, we would like to offer fans the opportunity to have the final say on which Pars Legends should be included in a new art installation.

With the support of the Centenary Club, who have kindly agreed to fund this initiative, voting will remain open until October 31st 2023.”

Presumably the candidates are the personal views of someone at the club, and inevitably that`s going to cause disagreements at best, arguments at worst. Almost all of the names listed are from the 1961 and 1968 Cup-winning teams, or else from the Calderwood era - fair enough, those were when the club had most success and that`s what we all like to remember.

But there have been so many players, managers (and others) over the years who could merit a place on the list, and the decision on the final 20 will also disappoint many fans. Hamish French has been mentioned and Kenny Thomson`s 433 appearances (only surpassed by Norrie) might also have merited inclusion. But it`s all personal choice and will depend how old one is!

Bobby Forrest, Stevie Morrison. Any player that took the jump from the lower divisions to the Premier League. Maybe Shaggy is the representative.

Bobby Robertson is there which I’m pleased to see. Likes of him, Shuggy Whyte and Shaggy were the heart of the club from the late 70’s /early 80’s who I was especially pleased to see going from the doldrums to the Premier League just a few short years later.
These players and Jim Leishman were pivotal.

Stanza has nailed it .. we all have our favourite legends .. and many on here will not have seen most of them from the 50`s 60`s 70`s

Only 20 .. Its not going to be easy

I can think of a few players who gave sterling service to the club playing in poor teams.

Sandy McNaughton for example.
