RAFFLE Dunfermline`s Very First Match in Europe

There is now an opportunity to win the Paul Town original painting of Dunfermline Athletic`s very first European match. Image is on the Home Page.

Raffle tickets are only £5 each, and all profits go to support the Dunfermline Athletic Youth Academy. £4,000 has been raised so far. The draw will be at the match against Airdrieonians on Saturday 13 January.

To enter, just pay by Stripe below. Raffle ticket numbers will be automatically generated for you.

Dunfermline`s first European tie was against St Patrick`s Athletic of Dublin. The games were played on the 12th and 27th of September 1961.

The first leg was played at East End Park. The Irish were said to have `an unquenchable spirit and boundless energy` against a technically superior Dunfermline side, according to the Scotsman newspaper. It was a Dunfermline team which consisted of Connachan, Fraser and Cunningham, Mailer, Miller and Duffy, McDonald, Smith, Dickson, Peebles and Melrose. Dunfermline were leading 3-1 at half-time but became sloppy and complacent, and were fortunate to see a late goal which brought the first leg to a 4-1 victory.

Two weeks later, Jock Stein guided the team to a comprehensive 4-0 victory in Dublin with both Charlie Dickson and George Peebles scoring a brace.

Dunfermline`s adventures in Europe had begun!

Anyone wanting to support Dunfermline Athletic Youth Academy but not having wall space for the painting, can buy a raffle ticket safe in the knowledge that they can contact us, if they win, and we`ll arrange with the Former Players` Association for the painting to go to a former player or a former player`s family.

It is great to be involved in the academy and see the serious talent we have at different age levels first hand. This is a brilliant way to support and fundraise for this.

I bought my tickets today. However, I do not have space for the painting, so I will be happy to donate it to the former player`s association if I am lucky to win as per the TRBFC post above

Just a note to thank all the people who either purchased raffle tickets online or on Saturday in the Purvis Suite, where the draw was made at half time.

An amazing total of £1145 was raised for the Youth Academy, and this will allow a further payment to be made this week to benefit the Youth Academy.

As it happened, the painting was won by a Morton supporter and he immediately donated it to the Macauley family. You may have seen on BBC News a few months ago that Evan and Lucas Macauley won British golf championships for their age groups (Under 6 and Under 8). The family will shortly be holding a fund raiser to send the boys to compete in the World Championships in the States. So the St Patrick`s Painting will be raffled a second time to allow the boys (who have very strong Pars family connections) to play. The Macauley family happened to have a table in the Purvis Suite and Jim Leishman had explained the story.
