 Mourinho Gone

Jose Mourinho`s sacking may be a shock to some but by his stats it is less surprising.

He had his second lowest win percentage (49%) of his managerial career during his time with Roma. Only in his second job, with Leiria, did he have a worst record.

He was blabbering on about not being Harry Potter the other day

The speculation has started already :-

Eddie Howe must be a bit more nervous today seeing that Jose Mourinho is available… his side is in poor form and a big name for a big project at Newcastle is available. Seems inevitable to me!

Mourinho. Wouldn`t at all be surprised to see him at Newcastle before season end. from
Tony in Redhill.

I could Jose ending up at Newcastle. They want European success and he would get it them. from Chris in Stockport

Must be great to be so mince at your job that you get fired with a big payoff, only for there to be a queue of further muppets offering you similarly outrageous money to go work for them…

Why anyone would think that Mourinho would be better for Newcastle than Howe just baffles me. Boring football combined with an unrivalled ability to stink the whole place out. And he hasn`t been " special" for years. Far from it.

Looks like Mourinho`s boat has sailed. Surely there must be a cut off point for "the special one". Anyone out there willing to take a punt on accumulating tenures of failure, must be in the desperate category. Dare one say, from reigning supreme for a decade or so, he now looks more like the Peter Grant or John Hughes of the upper echelons of football management. Time to fade into the background Jose and give the up and coming managers like Steven Gerrard a chance.(joke)

Mourinho won a lot of trophies - or more accurately, the teams he managed did, but he failed to win hearts and minds, even at his peak. When his teams were successful, it was all thanks to him. When they failed, it was always someone else`s fault. He invariably alienated many of his players with his arrogance and narcissism.

Not your average Sunday League player.

The 2010 Euro final which Inter Milan won 2-0 over Bayern Munich was classic Mourinho football. I remember watching the game and thinking that the more possession Bayern enjoyed (68% in total) the more dangerous Inter looked.

I hadn`t realised that Inter started the match without a single Italian player on the park.

Yes, I`ll give you that weemike. There is also a certain personal appeal which suggests that he doesn`t take himself as seriously as he sometimes makes out. His earlier career was punctuated by mercurial success in the short term both in England and Italy, which faded and died in the longer term. His later spells in England were unremarkable and his small successes with Roma, a pale reflection of his earlier achievements. For the general football fan there may be a certain novelty value in seeing him back in the English Premiership but there is still that serious doubt that the glory has departed.
