This seems odd on two levels.
One, getting rid of Mackay – I was never a fan but he seemed to be doing as well as could be expected. But Roy MacGregor seems to have had greater expectations and seems to be one who doesn’t hang about if he wants a change.
The second is the second return of Derek Adams, who seems to have a higher opinion of his abilities than may be justified by results. True, he has won some promotions, but seems less successful once promoted. And he has a slightly blotchy c.v. – twice quitting to go to a better opportunity only to return shortly after. And I think the last time he was in Dingwall he got booted 4 games into the season.
For someone as ambitious as MacGregor is, this seems a retrograde move.
