 The Wee Prime Minister

Ian McMillan passed away aged 92.

155 goals in 428 games during two spells with first love Airdrie and Rangers. A fine scoring record for an inside forward. ( creative midfielder in current parlance) Saw him quite a few times, busy wee player great vision, so intelligent on the ball.

I see he even continued to work as a mining surveyor throughout his football career.

Great player. Watched him at East End Park against Airdrie in 1955, a 3-3 draw, in B Division and the next week when we lost 7-0 away to the same team in the Cup. He was certainly a master. Went to Hampden a few weeks later for the cup semi-final against Celtic. Airdrie scored before a Celtic player touched the ball! Can watch it on U tube.

I remember these games too. As a young boy I got carried away a bit after the first game and had high hopes we were going to win in the Cup. Was so excited about it I had the ignominy of having to stop the bus on the way through to get out and be sick. Part of the learning process for being a Pars supporter.
