 Lady Luck

There have been plenty of posters, pundits, and commentators suggesting that the Pars win at Firhill was all down to luck.

I`m not minded to agree or disagree with that, but is it not the case that in games between fairly even matched teams, a bit of good or bad luck can often make the difference to the final result? How often do we see a team go very close at one end, maybe hitting the post or bar and their opponents go straight up the park and score? Now, I would argue that there`s not a huge difference among the teams in a 10 team league, so any one can beat anyone else with a bit of luck and that works both ways, of course.

So yes, Thistle didn`t have much luck, but their fans should dry their eyes and get on with it like the Pars have done, despite the never ending run of injuries we`ve had to so many key players this season. The bottom line is they lost to a team made up mainly of kids on loan and fringe players who would have been unlikely to start if everyone was fit. 🙂

Oh, and why is luck female? 🤔

It’s all swings and roundabouts in terms of decisions for me… sometimes you benefit from mistakes/close calls and other times your opposition do.

I do believe you make your own luck, eg you’re not going to get that dodgy penalty decision if you’re not in your opponents box but overall I believe they will generally balance themselves out

It`s only the underdogs who benefit from `luck`. Anything that goes the way of the favourites is deemed to be the natural order of things as they would have won anyway.

From Google GG :

It`s a personification of the word luck. It might have come about because Fortuna was the Roman goddess of fortune/luck. There was was even an American comic strip in the 1940s featuring the character Lady Luck

We are forever shaped by the Children we once were

I thought the Partick Thistle manager made a fair comment in terms of the goal that was chalked off but also said they were poor the second half. I think that we were better second half. Sometimes you make your own luck. No point in worrying about what you can`t control. Refereeing decisions are out of your control. It`s about how you respond. Lucky maybe but you create your own luck sometimes and despite everything I thought we were worthy winners.

We were extremely lucky,

What struck me was how fortunate we were with them having a dodgy keeper for the first goal as that changed the game.

What was a routine save actually resulted in us going in 1-1,

Keepers should always try and divert the ball away from the danger area when saving the ball.

At this level as we have seen making a save isn`t always enough.

That said great play from MFW In the follow up and that isn`t luck...that was training and education.

The offsides etc are part and parcel and this time we got lucky.....Happy days.

More of the same tomorrow guys.

Aren`t you quite critical of Mehmet, mike? Does that mean any team that plays us is lucky because we have. in your opinion, a `dodgy` keeper? You could extend that argument all over the park and say any team that played another with a `dodgy` player in any position was lucky. Kris Doolan dropped his regular keeper for Stewart so he must have thought he was the best man for the job. I don`t see how that was luck on our part.

We did get a break with the second disallowed goal, I think, but the fact is Thistle failed to capitalise on their first-half superiority and we were the better side after we equalised. I think Doolan will be more concerned about that although Thistle fans will no doubt concentrate on what they saw as refereeing decisions that went in our favour.

I am critical of mehmet, and if Graham was alert he would`ve had a tap in on Friday night,

That doesn`t change the fact Particks keeper should`ve parried the ball to the side instead of straight into the danger area.

That being said MFW played a blinder and that isn`t luck.

A player hitting a shot the opposing keeper doesn`t deal with properly isn`t `luck` by any definition. Stewart wasn`t unlucky and we weren`t lucky in that instance.

It was fortunate which is what I wrote.

Stewart ws unfortunate his bad practice was punished by mfw`s gameplay which was excellent

And fwiw everything is defined by luck on a sliding scale from 0% to 100%

I`ve always thought `fortunate` and `lucky` meant the same thing! I think we`ll have to agree to disagree.

Fair enough, on another day despite being on Todd could`ve been flagged off.

The Partick crowds reaction to the end of the game I felt was justified especially not having the benefit of replays

I never understand why fans chant `cheats!` in a situation like that. If they were unhappy with the ref it had nothing to do with us.

Forgive me for not giving 2 hoots about how your average Thistle fan felt at FT on Friday night.
