 State of the pitch

What happened to our great playing surface as resembles a junior pitch now rather than a championship team……is the groundsman injured too?

Pitch looks dreadful at the dugouts - was this where the USH blew a hole in it? Do we have rollers being used on it during the week?

Amount of players that slipped on it today was pretty high too! Could have caused a bad injury the one in 2nd half where Todorov went flying into one of our players because the ground just gave way under him!

Jimmy calderwood long ball worked and maybe we need to play in a different style that is conducive of a poor playing surface. Far too many times our wide players taking a touch is more like a pass so we need to go back to front and mix things up.

Worst pitch I`ve seen in all my years. That pitch has caused more injuries than Bobo Balde.

They perhaps need to look at relieving the groundsman of his duties. The weather hasn`t been especially bad this winter, so to put out a pitch like that, he can`t know what he is doing

You can`t be that old then. That`s a carpet compared to some I`ve seen over the years.

I would think that cost cutting would have an impact. Also heard one of the physio`s was sacked because of cost cutting

Ffs, even the grounds man is for the chopping block on here. What about the tea lady as well. It’s March, most pitches will be below par, due to the weather and the amount of games.

Undersoil heating pipes burst flooding large part of the pitch, a few other games off because the pitch wasn`t playable. Add to that that we are just into spring so weather is all over the place and the worst part of the pitch doesn`t get a lot of sunlight and folk are surprised the pitch isn`t like a bowling green 🤦🏼

Unlike EPL clubs we can`t afford to have specialist lighting and so onto help the pitch grow. I`m sure the ground staff are doing everything within their power to improve the pitch, replacing the turf in the summer would cost a fortune that we don`t have.

Many golf courses have been shut for half the winter and nobody runs about on them, and we had a burst pipe to cope with, yet some expect a perfect pitch? Think back 30 years to what people played on.

It will be a result of that burst pipe. That ideally would be resurfaced and left through the spring but the groundskeepers can`t control the seasons or weather.

The alternative would be to carpet it.

Can you give me examples of injuries that have been caused by the condition of our pitch please?

Expecting a really long list, given your statement here, but I can’t think of any - most of our injuries have happened in training and the vast majority have been muscular. The pitch was also fine up until a couple of months ago, when we were picking up the majority of our injuries.

The pitch was fine until we had the undersoil heating/flooding issue. Can’t blame the ground staff for that, just rotten luck.

Seriously. I got home in early December, and last week was the first few days with no rain since then.

Jings, some comments on here.
As mentioned above rain and the main Stand shading the pitch are the culprits.

Can we not get the rich Germans to move the main stand to the north and put a terrace on the south with a glass roof.

We`ve had bad luck with the pitch. It`s usually one of the best. The only issue I see is using concrete in the 6 yard boxes. It`s stopping Memhet from leaving his goal line.

Based on them building a training ground, losing £1m last season and covering the shortfall with their own cash?

It`s a shame none of our owners is involved in solar power. We could chuck some panels on the stadium roof and power some UV lights to grow the main stand grass.

Did you miss the meltdown on here last week at the club losing over £1m last season?

It was suggested several years ago that the roof be used for solar panels, but the answer was that the roof`s construction couldn`t support them.

Whether that is still the case (or even if it was then ....) I don`t know. It would probably take a construction engineer to determine the fact.

You mean like Nick Teller, who seems to be involved with Greentech as shown on COWS

SK/AD are a sponsor and could probably advise on energy/solar panels. Perhaps they already have? Even modern panels can be quite heavy so it may be that the roof on the North Stand, which would be the best for panels, is unsuitable.
