 SFA / SPFL

Isn`t it about time the SFA / SPFL grew a pair and told the Glasgow 2 that for the benefit of all Scottish football the current league structures were readdressed.

The SPFL was launched in 1997 with the aim of improving the standard, quite frankly that has failed.

Its little wonder the national team does so badly when so few Scottish players get a chance at the top level. Currently only 5 of the 12 teams top scorers were Scottish, and 3 of them were in the bottom 3 teams.

Even in this David Martindal openly admits:

"There`s a lot of pressure on managers to get instant results and success.

"That`s going to hamper the development and progression of younger players."

Even looking at the championship teams, 1 or 2 results can be the difference of promotion or relegation, so no-one can afford to "risk" trying out the youth,

If we as a nation want to improve our lot SFA / SPFL need to lead from the front and top be hog tied by 2 teams looking after themselves

Well exactly. What I am really pleased about is us developing an academy that should be solid for the future. It hopefully opens up opportunities for a lot of talented locals who may be put off going to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

However, the big issue is academies take time and it is VERY easy to get relegated when you have small leagues like Scotland does. The Glasgow pair surely realise that playing each other at least four times is not exciting or special.

The travelling is a big problem, a girl in my granddaughter`s Under 13 team was scouted by Hearts.

She was expected over in Edinburgh 3 nights a week for 2 hours at a time, that included gym work, video analysis and ultimately training.

She lasted 2 weeks!

Four Old Firm games per season is probably the only reason SKY covers Scottish football. Without those games, no SKY and no money.
