 Peter Cormack

Former Hibs and Liverpool favourite passed away aged 78.

Very versatile and clever player who could play in midfield or anywhere up front and with an eye for a goal, either foot or headers.

I see he also versatile enough to once take over in goal and keep a clean sheet!

Fabulous player, he was first to play the deep lying midfield role for Liverpool later perfected by another sadly departed Ray Kennedy. He featured for Hibs in the first ever game I can remember going to at EEP. RIP

His biography on wikipedia says :-

`A product of Tynecastle Boys Club the young Peter Cormack was signed by Heart of Midlothian directly from school. He was the first ground staff boy at Tynecastle Park since Hearts all-time great Tommy Walker in the 1930s. However Cormack left following an incident in which a grass cutting machine damaged a perimeter wall.`

Apparently he didn`t enjoy his time at Hearts because they gave him too many menial jobs to do rather than develop his footballing skills.

He had a distinctive high-stepping, prancing running style and was good in the air scoring a lot of his goals from late runs into the box. The fact that he only won 9 Scotland caps maybe indicated the wealth of talent we had available in his position in the 60s and 70s although I think he thought it was also the result of OF bias in selection.

I`m sorry to hear this - I never saw him play but I came across him in A&E where he gave me the "thumbs up" at a troublesome time. Another former player who suffered with dementia.
