Was a vote though were you couldn`t just vote on one of the competitions.

Either vote yes for both or no for both years which seems a bit dodgy.

C'mon Ye Pars!

Absolutely corrupt to the core and they didn`t even hide it this time.

* by giving the next World Cup to Spain, Morocco and South America, and then saying that the usual confederation rotation would apply it meant only Asia or Oceana could bid
* Australia said they were interested but FIFA wanted bid books in a month after opening the contest rather than the usual 18 months or so, so they had to pull out
* the bid book got the highest rating ever for a WC bid (think it was 4.2 out of 5) despite having only 3 of the stadiums actually built (and one of the cities hosting isn`t even built), the high score included a high score for inclusion (!) and sustainability (!).
* as with Qatar, it will have to be a winter tournament which the big UEFA nations are against (and it`s likely to be January rather than November-December like Qatar so it doesn`t clash with Ramadan) so to make sure there was no possible dissent, FIFA went for a virtual meeting, made the bid votes by acclimation rather than by tallied vote and put both bigs together so that Football Associations couldn`t be seen to be applauding the Spain-Morocco bid (which most are happy with even though the 3 game swing in South America is daft - just have the Centennial WC in Uruguay with Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil etc helping and then have 2034 in Spain and Morocco FFS) and not applauding the Saudi bid.

Infantino came in promising to right the wrongs of the Blatter era but has just made things worse.

Infantino wouldn’t look out of place as top dog at the spfl with some of the things that have happened under his stewardship no doubt 2034 will be another farce

I said this to a few of my mates Germany was the last time you will have a football tournament as we know it. Now FIFA are interested in winter world cups and Euros in different countries. This is making it incredibly difficult or impossible for your every day supporter to attend.

c'mon the pars

May not be difficult PUP but for your average working fan it will cost a fortune.

Spent more for Germany for a week than a months pay and that was only going to 1 game and a low budget for spending money. Only one of the next 4 I will venture to attend will be the one on home soil, and even then it may be a case of driving to and from host cities on the day of the game.

It’s a country named after a family. I don’t know what day to day life is like for an average Saudi Arabian (might look into it actually) but in fairness… FIFA still looks corrupt as it ever has.

I’m actually not against Middle Eastern countries having the opportunity to apply to host or even host major tournaments but looking at how the votes were cast makes everyone quite rightly question the legitimacy of the process.

That was a good post Kelty

Working in Saudi for over 10 years ,knowing their cultures this is not a good place to have westerners arriving for a football tournement .
There culture is,way different to that of the UAE where there is a western culture. You may have people staying in Bahrain and crossing the causeway ,but its hard getting visas for western people working there never mind tourists

Used to work with a guy years ago who spent time working out there as well actually. He’s retired now, not seen him in years.

The most obvious difference to me is their attitudes towards alcohol but is there any other glaring differences in culture? Aren’t they one of the countries that guys hold hands but homosexuality is illegal?🤔

few examples :
Its a lot more than Alcohol .Their religous police can arrest you for showing any affection to your wife /partner,holding hands ,kiss on the cheek ,Western wives in some regions were not permitted to sit in the front passenger seat ,she has to sit in the back ,even if its just husband and wife in the car ,I had a colleague who was walking through the street in line with his wife ,religeous police stopped them and were informed we ife must walk behind the man Dont even thunk about challenging those people.
Another crazy example a friend got ran into with a Saudi driver running the lights Went to court the Saudi was 100% guilty.Judge blamed the ex pat ,saying if he hadnt been in the country then the xrash would not have happened .

Hasn`t there been massive cultural change in recent years in Saudi Arabia. Religious police have been abolished for example and they are opening up to tourists, public entertainment and more right for women.

I know people that have visited quite frequently recently and they think there has been a huge shift in social culture there in recent years.
