To raise funds for the football academy, myself and Eddie Martin are organising an auction for one of renowned football artist Paul Towns oil paintings.
All profits from the monies raised will go to the DAFC Youth football academy.
This rare oil painting is one where the Pars are wearing the late 1960`s `change` blue strip and where the team are celebrating the first Dunfermline goal of the 2nd Leg at East End Park.
It was also one of the great games played by the late Alex Edwards in Europe which makes it very special!
Dunfermline Athletic Vs Anderlecht.
A week before Christmas 1969, Dunfermline Athletic took on Anderlecht in Belgium.

Doug Baillie captained the Pars and held the defence together although under pressure for much of the tie. The match was decided by a headed goal from Johan Devrindt just before half time. This determined that the Belgians would hold a 1-0 advantage until the New Year when the second leg was played on 14 January 1970 at East End Park.
The Belgians featured their star player Paul Van Himst who at 26 years old had already played 50 times for Belgium and who had been ill for the first leg. It took only 9 minutes for George McLean to score a great individual effort, beating two defenders and calmly slipping the ball into the net.
Edwards then hit the inside of the post from a penalty kick after Gillespie had been felled in the area. The ball rebounded and hit the goalkeeper in the face before being cleared. Immediately after half time, a great piece of Edwards skill saw Barry Mitchell bravely score with a diving header.
The Pars were now in front in the tie and winning 2-0 on the night. The play was frantic and swung from end to end. Anderlecht got their first goal in 73 minutes and added a second ten minutes later. It was now 2-2 in this game, but the Fifers were 3-2 down overall. A late goal came to Dunfermline from McLean but the `away goals rule` put Anderlecht into the quarter finals of the Fairs Cup as the aggregate score over the two legs was 3-3.

I agree.
I would argue that Paul Van Himst was in the first eleven of opposition players ever to play at East End Park. A superb player who turned the tie in the Belgians` favour

I am always proud to be involved with the European night set of paintings, as I know that profits raised go to the football academy. Since 2019, I have been involved with the young players coming through. I met with the first team players last week in my capacity as the mental health ambassador. An introduction to the new players who came in so they know the service I provide and can put a face to the name.
It was said at the meeting that it was one players fourth introduction, I laughed and loved that at the same time.
The pathway from the academy is tremendous. 4 players starting and the first goal scored by Matty Todd in the last game. It really is a conveyor belt of talent with the new graduates from the academy coming through, and they have their first professional contract. This all needs funding, and this is where this project comes in.
