These are great, I used to pop in for a sociable coffee occasionally with our ex chairman (the one that was driven out by morons) and there was pretty much always a school group, I believe GG did them (I just said hello to him, he won`t know me) and it seemed a fantastic thing, just full of enthusiasm, our fans of the future, and shows you what a club really means to everyone.
Just gave me an insight of how much our volunteers matter, and how much they care.

I`m immensely proud of what Dave Dawson, Wullie Oliphant, and I have achieved since we approached Ross McArthur, individually, in 2014. I knew Wullie, having seen him play 5s at Woodmill HS, but neither of us knew Dave. We wanted to help the Pars after narrowly going out of existence the year before. Ross introduced us, and we came up with the schools engagement programme.
Dave took on Tours for Schools, a stadium tour that emphasises the different job opportunities offered by modern football clubs. Wullie runs the Pars Stars in the Media initiative, which involves him visiting schools and helping the kids improve their literacy and communication skills. I coordinate the Pars Tackle Health initiative in which players visit local primary schools and offer tips and advice as to how children can make good lifestyle choices to improve their health and fitness. In 2018, I was joined by Sandy Wyse and last November by Derek Allan, two retired colleagues, both staunch and enthusiastic Pars fans, meaning we can engage with up to three different classes per school, simultaneously. The feedback from teachers and learners is always very positive. The kids love meeting the players, who completely buy into the programme and are great ambassadors for the club.

My eldest has met the players when they came round the school and went on a trip to EEP. He`s still not that interested in football unfortunately but had a great time. My main hope is some of his pals who wear Liverpool and Man City tops might start asking tomsee the team along the road rather than watching games on a TV.

GG is his usual modest self, not mentioning the national award SPFL Community Trust Award for Pars Tackle Health won a couple of years ago.
Great recognition, in the face of competition from Rangers, Aberdeen, Hearts etc.

I think it`s absolutely marvellous, the effort all these guys,and lassies do,they are a credit to themselves, and the club.Great to see them ,encouraging, local kids,to support their local team.I wish them every success, in their efforts.

Cheers, SP. Fixed the link for you. You`re showing your age now. Time flies as you get older. 😃 We won the award back in 2018 and it was Celtic, not Rangers we saw off in the final 4. All the other finalists did great community work and would have been worthy winners, but the Pars was the only club that used its players to engage with its local community.
Ross McArthur was especially delighted as he said the club`s reputation had been badly damaged by the events of 2013, both among other Scottish clubs and in the local community. He saw this recognition as a positive step towards restoring the Pars reputation in the community.
Not your average Sunday League player.
