While we don`t have our own troubles to seek, spare a thought for Valencia, perhaps the Pars most famous European opponents. Like the Pars, Valencia is in serious danger of relegation, after a crushing, 7-1 defeat by Barcelona left them second bottom of La Liga and 5 points from safety. Quite sad to see a club with such a glorious history falling on such hard times.

đ€ Both clubs can go on a good run and beat the drop.

GG, it will be celebrations in the scale of Leishmanâs aeroplane if manage to avoid the drop this year. Unfortunately my confidence has gone, but very much hope to be wrong as there is a team in there somewhere.

Corberan seems to have steadied the ship a little bit so far. Reckon he will get them out that mess by the end of the season.

It has been a dramatic decline. Bringing in a club legend in Ruben Baraja didn`t work, and whilst it is a huge ask, I can only hope they get the points needed to ensure safety.
Quite a fall from grace, sadly.

seen article confirming they are FINALLY due to move to the new stadium that they initially started building in 2007 in the next couple of years. Valencia as a city is beautiful and well worth a visit.

Of course not, wee eck, Valencia is a far bigger club than the Pars. I suppose, in Spanish terms, they are/were the equivalent of Hearts, Hibs or Aberdeen. Just below Real and Barcelona. My affection for Valencia is purely down to our best ever European result. They went on to win the Fairs Cup, of course, and collected quite a few trophies after that.
Truth be told, the frozen EEP pitch was a great leveller that night. I believe all their players just brought one pair of boots.....

Had it been a domestic fixture, or even a Euro game involving British opponents, it would never have gone ahead.
However, Big Jock worked his persuasive charm on the English match official suggesting that the tie was over to all intents and purposes - and let`s just get it over and done with rather than keeping a foreign club hanging around - especially as there was no realistic chance the big freeze would let up.
The referee was the well kent Jim Finney - maybe he wanted away down the road asap !!!

That`s very interesting regarding Jock Stein`s influence over the ref. It did look like a tough pitch to play on and would have definitely levelled the playing field for us.
Spotted this reading about Finney on Wikipedia -
"Finney then took charge of the 1962 FA Cup Final between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley. Though the normal practice at the time was for the winning captain to keep the match ball, Danny Blanchflower presented Finney with the ball at the end of the game. He is reported to be one of five freemasons to have refereed the FA Cup Final."
