 Junior Football

Almost embarrassed to say I know nothing about junior football, and if not watching the pars then not that bothered about watching other soccer teams and would go and watch other sports…

But someone posted link about Crossgates and see their next game is against Thornton hibs

So how does junior football work? Are they local community supported or are their natural allegiances played out to hibs/hearts etc?

most "junior" clubs are actually senior clubs now in that they are part of the full pyramid structure and play in the East of Scotland league. Some junior clubs still exist (Dundee area) due to the boundaries permitting access to east of scotland and highland league. and some of the more established sides in the West of Scotland.

Most are reliant on community support/commitee and sponsors rather than any afficiation to other clubs in the pyramid

Primrose crowd funder hoping to raise £6000 to replace the new wooden enclosure that was destroyed in the storm last week .
As most of our supporters and sponsors will be aware, we have recently invested heavily in improving the facilities and infrastructure in and around Humbug Park in order to make our beloved home a both comfortable and safe environment to watch home matches.
Unfortunately, Storm Eowyn has caused significant damage to our new shelter, surrounding wall around the ground and our matchday hospitality cabin. Any help towards the repair works will be greatly appreciated.

The Juniors were and are still a different organisation to the ``Seniors`

In theory semi professional, overwhelming from ex mining areas (Ayrshire and Fife were strongholds) or ex industrial areas, mainly small towns and villages, in general not big enough to support a senior set up, although a few have been in the past -Boness, Beith , Lochgelly even! And ex junior clubs Kelty & Bonyrigg made the step up.

With the Lowland/West of Scotland leagues setting up, most of them have become `Senior` with East of Scotland just below that- all the Fife Juniors have stepped up.

There`s still pockets of juniors, Tayside, and a couple of Ayrshire as well as North of Scotland.

Some of the ex juniors (Linlithgow, Arthurlie, Pollok for example) had big crowds and still do, and some of them can pay higher than lower league.

Growing up in the 1950s/1960s in Glasgow, there were lots of Junior clubs around, and my dad took me to quite a few of them! But by 1970 some of them were just being watched by the proverbial man and a dug and several are now defunct.

Ashfield, Baillieston, Benburb, Bridgeton Waverley, Cambuslang Rangers, Dennistoun Waverley, Duntocher Hibs, Maryhill, Maryhill Hibs, Parkhead, Petershill, Pollok, Shawfield, Shettleston, St Anthony`s, St Roch`s, Vale of Clyde

There`s a full list of Scotland`s Junior clubs, past and present here (even includes Dunfermline Athletic!):https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Scottish_Junior_Football_Association_clubs
