I thought Sam Young was on loan at Forfar. Can he play for two clubs simultaneously?

Dunfermline went ahead in just 82 seconds. A good passing move up the right side saw Liam Hoggan swing the ball to the back post where it was played back for Andrew TOD in front of goal to finish. 1-0

The home side kept up the intense pressure with a Freddie Rowe cross headed narrowly wide by Fogarty on four minutes and Taylor Sutherland bringing a fine save out of Queens’ keeper Mark Thomson, four minutes later. Fyfe lofted an inviting ball to A Tod on the right side of the visitors box but his headed attempt was cut out. Sutherland made Thomson hold the next shot on target but in 17th minute Sam YOUNG ghosted in to turn Freddie Rowe’s corner from the right in at the near post. 2-0

Taylor Sutherland melted an Andrew Tod cross on target four minutes later but the keeper did really well to turn the ball over his crossbar. Next John Tod turned up on the right side of the box to test Thomson with a low shot. Then great individual skills from Owen Hampson saw the Sheffield United man waltz his way in from the right and tuck the ball away low at the near post. 3-0

A Fyfe cross just evaded Sutherland and Hoggan had an on target drive blocked. The keeper made a fantastic save to deny Young’s header from an A Tod free kick. The fourth goal came ten minutes from the interval when A Tod bore in from the left and released a shot that SUTHERLAND turned in at the far post. 4-0

In 39th minute Taylor-Clarke switched the ball to the right for Rowe to tee up Hoggan but when he was blocked the ball fell nicely for A TOD to send a spectacular 20 yard shot into the top left. 5-0

When the Queens’ keeper was light with a clearance his side lost their second goal in two minutes as Hampson cut back for FYFE to smash home. 6-0

It didn’t really need said that with seven corners and six goals it had been a first half totally dominated by Dunfermline. They had played good free flowing football and might have led by even more at the break.

Hampson is the last of the new players to get any real game time due to injury. Who knows,if that`s him fit now, he might just save our season 🤞.

John McLaughlan made four substitutions before the second half got underway. Mehmet, Fogarty, Taylor-Clarke and Hampson went off to be replaced by Thomas Margetts, Ewan McLeod, Mark Beveridge and Jake Sutherland. Dunfermline again struck early, Jake’s pass for ROWE so firmly struck that the keeper just couldn’t hold. 7-0

In 59 minutes a fine pass from Beveridge set up for Andrew Tod to rifle in goal number eight. Taylor Sutherland was kept out with two great saves and in between Billy Gray was denied a goal when J Tod cleared off his goalline.

ROWE fired in the ninth in 75 minutes and McLEOD made it double figures two minutes later with a fairly rudimentary shot into the Queens net. 10-0

A perfect Jake Sutherland cross from the right led to Liam MIDDLETON’s 81st minute side footed finish. Mark Thomson pulled off another good save to turn a J Sutherland rocket away for a corner.

There would be no more scoring and needless to say no time was added. In the 90 minutes Dunfermline had fifteen corners, QOS none and the scoreline was emphatic.

Cheers Wee Eck. I was thinking there was potentially 2 Youngs in their squad.

Maybe the first team would perform better at Rosyth behind closed doors.

John McLaughlan`s post-match thoughts -

After the reserves resounding victory over Queen of the South coach John McLaughlan said that it was hard to evaluate since the opposition were a young side and the team that they could put out was hampered because of having a injuries at first-team level:-

“They had to come up with an under-18 side. I spoke to the manager beforehand. We’ve all been there. Looking at the Dunfermline positives, eight different scorers. Andrew Tod coming back after a long lay-off, scoring a hat-trick and his overall play was really good. Freddie Rowe, you can see Freddie’s got real quality. People like Owen Hampson and Tommy Fogarty wanted to play, and also young Omar (Taylor-Clarke), and you can see the real quality they’ve got. So, looking at it, you expect us to be dominant and I think we showed that. All you can ask for as a coach, is that they be as professional as they can but keep the ruthlessness in front of goal.

“I said to them, don’t be wanting to go now and score goal after goal. Try and wait for the openings and keep possession and that’s what we tried to do in the second half, try and make it more possession-based. I’m delighted because it’s a clean sheet for both goalkeepers and we can only play what’s in front of us. I told them to go and enjoy themselves today and that’s what they did.”

Sometimes when a team is six up at half-time that don’t get so many goals in the second half but you’ve scored another five?
“Their goalkeeper`s made some really good saves as well and that shows you the chances we created. The amount of chances we created was the most pleasing thing. We scored early, first minute, first attack and that kind of set the tone. There were a lot of good performances individually but we got through the 90 minutes and it’s getting minutes into the legs for some of the players that don’t play at first team level.”

There were some good finishes, Andrew Tod’s into the top corner and Owen Hampson walked through their defence. John said that he was really pleased with some of the individual goals:-
“I think some of the set plays were good, the corners were better and you can see them try to work things. It’s good to hit as many goals as you can but reserve football is about developing players for the first team and I think a few showed their real quality today.”

Plenty of practice from corners, there were 15?
“We tried different variations because we try and work through the same stuff the first team do. We saw a lot of that today, front post and different deliveries and across the face. It was really pleasing. Reserve football is all about performing to the best of your ability and I think we did that today.”

Next up is the Reserve Cup semi final away to Queen’s Park next week?
“That will be a much greater challenge. Hopefully we can go there and represent the club the right way and hopefully get to a final because we’ve got good quality and it’s all about now trying to put it together. They’ll be the same, they’ll have real quality. They’re in one final, the Challenge Cup, so the reserves will be looking to get into their final also.”

Tod jr should be in the first team squad. Maybe give Freddy Rowe a wee run too. Chances of that happening though?

Rowe is out on loan I think he got sent off at the weekend.
Don`t think either are ready for playing in the first team yet. Tod probably a bit closer to that though

Tod`s loan to east fife was initially reported as `season long` by East Fife. It was obviously announced he was returning to us early because of injury but maybe he could go back?

Rowe was named as a sub for the Queens game, I think, but St. Andrews United said he was back on loan with them after (another) admin error.

Yes it was announced the morning of the QP game that he’d been recalled and then was named initially as a sub on social media but I don’t think he was actually present that day, I’ll stand corrected but I don’t recall seeing him. In addition the report on Cows does not list him as a sub either so this might be the clerical issue that St Andrews refer to.
