Sir Jim Ratcliffe is convinced that this is the way to go at Old Trafford.

He claims Man U will be "bust by Christmas " unless costs are slashed. After looking to lay off significant numbers of non playing staff, he`s now looking to slash the players` wage bill. Isn`t this at odds with his grand plan to build a stadium with a bigger capacity than Wembley?
Do performance based contracts work, and will players and their agents agree to sign them if they can sign for another club which offers them a better basic salary? The implication is that players on a good salary with minimal bonuses don`t try their best in every game. How true or fair are these accusations?

Ratcliffe is an asset stripper. It`s the only the thing that he knows. His entire modus operandi is cost cutting.
Personally, I don`t think performance based contracts work that well in football - the vast majority of players seem to really care about the results of the team. I don`t think they need any further motivation to try and win.

Playing devil`s advocate for a moment, Bandy, Juventus had the lowest basic wages in the late 70s/early 80s, but had very generous bonuses relating to points won and league position. They were champions 4 times in 6 seasons. It probably helped that they had some very good players in their squad. They supplied 9 players in Italy`s starting XI at Argentina 78.
You can offer poor players all the bonuses you want. It won`t make them any better.

Were the refs also on a Juventus win bonus?
Apologies if I`m getting my clubs and scandals mixed up.
