Tidser
Young manager - asked to be a coach and work with players bought for him.
A step up from kelty and that`s personal ambition in action
The job under the analytics new owners needs a seasoned pro to do that if they are humble enough. Possibly the wrong hire.
If he was fitter he would probably still be coming to the end of his playing days.
He needs support or if it doesn`t work out he needs compassion not fans baying for blood
Human being doing his best
DAFC is my long term hobby/passion - it`s his job/reputation.
Chill folks

I understand the rationale behind his appointment and I was supportive, but the honeymoon period is now over and it`s plain to see its a step too far.
Inexperience is in my opinion evident, especially in the way the management team name and shame players with the underlying theme, it`s their fault and not ours. I think they have demotivated the team and I suspect this was what `Geordie` was alluding to in his post match interview when he mentioned giving 100% on several occasions, only to add I think they are giving 100% as an afterthought.
The reality is we are stuck with him and I fear we are destined for the drop, but hopefully it will have been a very steep learning curve for him and once we get rid of the dross and he as an influence on the new recruits, he and the football improves. But maybe that`s just me looking at things through rose tinted spectacles!!

Throughout my lifetime, I have predicted that three managers would lead to calamity upon their appointment: Davie Hay, Peter Grant, and Michael Tidser. Regrettably, I have never been mistaken. Tidser appears to be entirely out of his depth; every time the camera panned towards him, he seemed bewildered. This is not the kind of individual we need. He’s meant to be a leader. The club is experiencing a decline in its fanbase. I have never witnessed such a rapid shift in sentiment towards management before. Regrettably, he must go; it simply is not working. He is responsible for team selection and their style of play. Since his arrival, the team`s performance has gotten worse rather than improved. Yesterday`s display was worse than the 2-0 defeat we suffered under McPake earlier this season.

The last 2 games v rovers and grangemouth the players couldn`t even attempt to give 100 percent effort. We know the majority are playing above their capabilities when it comes to talent but you can be the least talented player in the world but still put in a shift. Unfortunately a majority of these guys have lost their bottle.

No wonder when the players can`t even make an effort to get back into the game. The manager is poor but the "players" need to take some responsibility as well as they are the ones putting in embarrassing performances on a weekly basis.

From what I’ve seen so far none of the players brought in, except Mullen, are good enough for this level.
But the style of football and subsequent interviews also highlight that the management team are out of their depth too.
The new ownership has been a disaster so far.
Hope the algorithms can figure out how to sort this mess!

To an extent yesterday but you can`t be telling me the manager is responsible for a player`s being incapable of controlling a ball under no pressure? Or having the ability to make a 5 yard pass to feet under no pressure? It happens all too often we turn over the ball way too cheaply that`s on the players. They have been nothing short of a disgrace for weeks.

Tidser now fallen into the mcpake team selection lottery trap. Players getting dropped as not good enough and those come in stink it out and are then dropped and rinse and repeat. Doesn’t know his best team or formation and to be fair anyone would have a hard job picking a decent championship outfit from that dross.
The best Tidser could do now is come out and say the signings in Jan were not of his choosing. Mullen aside they have been worse than we already have which you think would be hard to do! Who identified and signed these guys? Is Tidser being forced to play them as the stats suggest they will do the business?
There’s no getting out of this, too many hiding and too many not good enough. If I didn’t know any better I would say Tidser has lost the dressing room. They ain’t playing for him although even if they did they are not good enough for us to notice the difference either way.
Feels worse than under the last weeks of mcpake….

I’m not going to kick the man when he’s down. He clearly cares and he’s clearly suffering. However it is difficult when he steadfastly refuses to abandon a philosophy that clearly isn’t working and not only doesn’t have a plan B but acts like we don’t even need one.
I don’t know how much input and influence he’s had on the signings we’ve made but I’m struggling to see what they’ve got that’s going to get us out of this mess.

Tidser completely brought this upon himself, he`s a young manager who literally watched the 3 games that McLaughlin took charge in. He thought it was a good idea to take what McPake had done in terms of slow tempo, overplayed possession football and take it to the extreme. It`s not exciting and it`s not efficient with the players we have, how can nobody at the club see this?

He`s about as popular as Peter Grant now. Disaster of an appointment.

A break? Christ! He should be given his jotters and that’s it. He’s got to go but I don’t think it’ll be until we’re relegated at the end of the season. Whoever appointed Tidser should be held accountable, whether it’s Cook or the new owners. I’ve been following Dunfermline all over the country for 25 years and I’ve never felt so disconnected as I do now. Most of the guys I’ve sat with over the years are in the same boat. Totally scunnered at the moment. Another 7 figure loss on the cards and at least a year on the seaside league would be disastrous for the club.

I said before, I don’t care how good a manager you are supposed to be, football is littered with them who failed!
The players skill is important. You shouldn’t need the manager to tell you how to pass, trap, cross a ball.
I watched two passes across the backline and a forward pass to a player who was being marked, his take allowed the ball to run away from him to a rovers player and we’re on the back foot. Can’t blame the manger for poor basic skills or judgement!
These players have no pride in what they do. No fight. No determined to prove themselves. No respect for the manager.
The manager can spend all week telling them what he wants them to do. But one stupid pass or decision and it’s all out the window and the headless chicken scenario arrives.
We talk about a clear out ? How many ? Most of these will have to be replaced. I don’t see us going anywhere for at least another season.

Michael Tidser looked like he was a broken man on TV and the commetary reflected that. Maybe give him a break and bring in John McLaughan for the final games of this season. One thing is for sure relegation is now a distinct pssibility as we cannot score a goal in most games.

I do agree to an extent that there`s a human side of this, and that he`s not likely to be feeling great about how things are going.I don`t like the thought of him or anyone else going through extreme emotional distress because that`s pretty horrible for anyone.
However, nobody forced him to become a football manager. And nobody forced him to take a full-time job, perhaps before he was ready for it. He`s been in the game as a player long enough to know that football brings pressure and that there are times when things get tough for managers. I have a friend who worked in social care but after a while just found it too emotionally demanding - eventually she got out of it completely and did something else. If the emotional cost of struggling as a full-time football manager is too high, then he should resign, as my friend did. If he resigned today with a statement noting that, on reflection, he felt that this had come too early and that he`d look to get back in at part-time clubs over the summer, he`d come out of it with some respect.

I mentioned somewhere last night he needs out for his own health. The pictures of him last night didn’t look good, looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but there.
Hold his hands up, admit he took on too big a job far too early in his career and move back to part time football.
That’s the best outcome for everyone.

So many questions, so many threads on which to ask.
I’ll comment on the game on the match thread – here I’ll deal with MT’s recruitment.
I must be one of the few people without any inside information, so that may give me an objective view (or I may be completely wrong).
I would have thought underperformance of the first team coaching team would represent one of the biggest risks the club has – get it wrong and it costs two fortunes – one to replace the manager and assistant, one in terms of league position/fan disengagement and so on. And maybe a third, if you have to get a new job lot of players for the new guy.
Recently we have gone for Grant (failed), Hughes (failed), McPake (initially moderately successful but ultimately lost his way, and failed). And now Tidser (and our streak seems to be continuing).
You would think therefore that you would take steps to mitigate this keyman risk – perhaps to ensure that one person is not responsible for all the key decisions (if they get them wrong, then they get them wrong in a big way) but more to do better due diligence on getting the right person in the first place.
I would imagine that the board would have some basic succession planning in place – maybe informal discussions over coffee about potential options should they have needed to replace McPake in a hurry. Bene? Murray? McLaughlan?
But once the starting pistol was fired they seemed to move very quickly. They could have had fifty, a hundred applications. The whole world to choose from but they picked the boy next door. It seemed rushed. I’ve been involved in plenty recruitment processes and interviews (many of them flawed, to be fair) and it’s not unknown for the initial favourite to be quickly seen to be the wrong person once it gets serious.
We chose potential over experience. Many clubs (particularly ours) seem to want to find the next SAF, or Brian Clough, or Jock Stein. But we end up with the first Tom Forsyth. And the problem with inexperience is it shows. Problems inevitably arise. Challenges are posed. Issues surface. An experienced manager has seen them before and knows what to do. A good manager may come up with solutions. I’m not sure we have either. In fact, his apparent stubbornness may have created its own host of problems. And once confidence starts to leak it can drain quickly.
This has an air of the Claude Anelka catastrophe to it. At least he had a famous brother.

Socks has a point. But if Tidser resigned now - that`d be his ambitions up in smoke. Instead o` that he`s maybe entitled to hold on, even if relegated, on the basis that he`s come to a dysfunctional club. He hasn`t taken us down, we`ve been in a mire for years and he`s been - so far - unable to lift us out of it.
I`d like the club to have a meeting and say to Tidser - it`s no slight on you, but you do the stuff that Lanza John doesn`t want and let Lanza take the team for a few games. Aye, have a break Michael. As if!
Ach, it`s a fecht.

I think he needs to go to give us any chance of staying up. In saying that the Club need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask why we cannot appoint a decent manager!
I would bring in an interim with view to extending their contract if we stay up. Murray or Paul Hartley would be my choices. Don’t want Kettlewell, Motherwell fans detested his style of football!

Last night was brutal and some of the decisions are beyond strange, like leaving Oakley on for the full game but I do still have sympathy for him. In his worst nightmares he wouldn`t have believed that just 11 or 12 games in his new team on live TV would put in a performance like that and a large section of the away support would be calling for his head.
He is responsible for that team so has to live with it but the board should never have brought in a young manager for a toxic relegation fight and he should never have gone near the job at least at that time.
The other part is the senior and more experienced players and what is going on with them. Apart from at left back most of them were in their preferred positions last night and except for Mullen let him down badly. You could see the frustration in the players towards each other and maybe it is with the manager/tactics/selection but you wouldn`t want to be relying on them in a fight.
Maybe they could bring in someone experienced to help him but feels like it is too late. Hope they come to a deal to let him go without any more damage to his reputation or health and he can carry on somewhere else. Sad situation.
