Supporting a football team is mostly about being entertained for a couple of hours once or twice a week. Most fans mostly just want their team to be successful. However, we all know that it`s about more than that.
We now have a manager who cheated on the girlfriend with whom he was cheating on his wife. We have a sponsor that`s a crypto casino that`s not allowed to operate in the UK and an owner with a business that`s based on a technology that`s about as environmentally damaging as fracking.
I know we`ll all be happy if we`re still in the Championship on the 3rd of May (or at the end of the play offs), but we`re not in Kansas anymore Toto.

I rented a flat next to the girlfriend of the married Dunfermline Athletic captain in the early 1990s.
He is held in high esteem at East End Park.

So Neil Lennon is human and makes mistakes? He’s like the rest of us? No we can’t have that! I’m willing to bet there’s a few in our support that have done far worse things than cheat on their partner. Also, in regards to our ex-captain, I’m glad someone has finally addressed the humongous elephant in the room when he is brought up. I imagine doing so won’t be a popular move.
Having Neil Lennon as manager is going to bring out some of the absolute scourge of our society. We all know why certain folk don’t like a guy they probably have never met.

It’s a bit deeper than cheating on his wife. He threatened his mistress that “someone would put a knife to her throat” if she told anyone about their affair & was in court for refusing to pay for his child while earning obscene amounts of money.
I can see the point the OP is making, announcing someone like that as the manager of your club, with an ad plastered over it for a dodgy gambling company which is banned in the UK.. isn’t a good look.

Again though, the moral hand wringing over the sponsor, most of the high street brands you enjoy will be partaking in horrendous practices in foreign countries to keep profits up. But they`re banned in the UK you say, again, the UK, not exactly a bastion of morality, cheerleading genocide and cutting disability benefits for missiles.
This is not an age of overwhelming morality or decency, I`m just gonna try and enjoy the sport.

Would you celebrate one of those young guys being made an ambassador for our club? It’s just a mistake after all. Those boys were 17,18 years old.. and done something ridiculous and were rightly hounded out by the club. The same club that are now fawning over a bully like Lennon.

I used to be in Nico`s every weekend when Norrie had it, he was popular with the ladies, they were falling over themselves for a piece of him, and I`d imagine any woman who got involved with him would know what he was like.

I`m surprised it took this long for someone to find a stick to beat our new manager with.....
Just think - he hasn`t even started yet. It can`t be easy being a wee, ginger Fenian, in a largely Presbyterian country, where a significant proportion of the population find it difficult to accept the presence of Irish Catholics. I should stress that Catholics from other countries, like myself, are accepted without threats or abuse.
When Lennon goes for a pint in his favourite Glasgow pub, he is always accompanied by two minders.
A rather sad state of affairs in 2025

If he was upto what Lennon has done, then yes, that would be sensible. I don’t think it’s hard to understand men who threaten women shouldn’t be lauded. If it was Dave smith from down the street who was in the press for saying to his partner “someone will put a knife to your throat”, I’m sure you’d condemn it. That’s literally all I’m saying. I don’t like Lennon as a human being, he’s a bully, especially when it comes to women. it’s been said countless times over the years. Hopefully he’s only here for the 7 games 👍🏻

It was then that she threatened to go to his partner – only for Lennon to turn nasty, telling her someone “could” put a knife to her throat if she spoke out.

You may well be right, Aaron, but he`s just one guy in a foreign country. His behaviour could just be a defiant reaction to sectarian abuse.
Imagine you went to live in another country and the natives constantly abused you with references to your nationality, religion and hair or skin colour. Would you not be inclined to retaliate in kind? Now imagine that, like me, you arrived in another country (Scotland) where you were treated with kindness and consideration. Would you still be inclined to be spiteful or abusive?

"He’s from the same country the same people abusing him support."
He`s Irish, and while NI is technically part of the UK, those abusing and threatening him are staunch Loyalists, but you know that. Most Irish Catholics, but not all, would like to see Ireland reunified, but you knew that, too.
And that`s just the political part. Then there`s the religious divide. I can`t understand why anyone could hate another human being, that they may have never met, just because they were born into a different religion.
I`ve been to Derry, and it was a real eye- opener.

If you want to take the moral high ground over managers and players with unsavoury skeletons in the closet - where do you start and stop ?
A manager who was a convicted drug dealer or paedophile ?
I notice Lennon won a civil case in 2024 over child support claim - that appears to be the only legal action he’s been involved in - except as victim of a planned bomb threat, or 2 thugs jailed for assaulting him.
Let him without sin cast the first stone ?

People cheat,it`s a fact of life. We,as animals are not designed to be monogamous. I`d wager that if people were pumped with truth serum, a lot would admit to cheating. I`ve never cheated on my ex wife though,I`m just a t1t, my own worst enemy etc.
People make mistakes. If he was a woman beater I`d have a different opinion on him.

When I first joined .net I naively assumed that the majority of Pars` fans would be rational, fair-minded and objective in their views. How wrong could I be? And this was before looking at the Politics Forum where some of the views expressed were in direct opposition to my own and, in my opinion, verged on the libellous at times.
I decided none of this would influence my choice to continue supporting the Pars though. You have to draw the line somewhere and accept that people have different ways of dealing with life but football is a way of putting that aside for a few hours each week and hopefully uniting them in a common cause.
