They always get a favourable group !
But saying that if Scotland was in a group with the worst teams going we would still make it hard for ourselves

England get an easy group because they`re a top pick. They`re a top pick because they do well in finals.

There are easy groups and there are ridiculously easy groups. England`s group doesn`t have one team that I wouldn`t expect Scotland to easily beat. Whereas we get Denmark and Greece, it`s gonna be a huge challenge just to finish 2nd.

England do always seem to avoid the worst possible 2nd seeds in their group, with the possible exception of when they had Croatia and they failed to qualify for the Euros. At the tournaments, they seem to avoid the hardest 2nd and 3rd seeds, except maybe when they drew Italy and Uruguay and finished bottom of their group. When they get through the groups, they often seem to find themselves on the easier half of the draw and don`t play anyone decent until the quarters or semi finals. Germany, Netherlands, Argentina, Spain, Portugal etc have all been in recent world cup "Group of Death" sections whereas England always seem to avoid them. We managed to haul ourselves up from 4th seeds to 3rd and were rewarded with a group including Italy and France and a 4th seed of Ukraine who had been to the World Cup quarters. We get ourselves into Pot 2 and we get Greece as a 3rd seed who were recently in Nations League A where they beat England in England. Our bottom seed always seems to be a tricky Eastern European country whereas England get Andorra. Seedings and prior performances help, of course they do. But luck also plays a massive part.

I suppose it could be argued that easier competition in qualification and groups maybe doesn`t help them when they get to the latter stages of tournaments because they`ve not been playing top sides in competitive matches regularly?
They always seem to approach tournaments full of confidence but that`s maybe unfounded given they haven`t played top teams in anything other than friendlies.
That`s obviously the same situation for all top tier teams but Englands `luck` in getting particularly easy draws is possibly counting against them in the end.
I wouldn`t complain if we had their draws though!
