I`ve changed my mind after I posted a knee-jerk comment following the red card.
After watching the highlights I see it differently now:
In the moment, VW believed he could prevent a possible Ayr goal by taking a yellow. In the split-second, he stuck his arm out to stop the ball, hoping it`d pass as an accident.
I thought the ref probably enjoyed humiliating him - a player with a big reputation. The ref called him over, kept him standing for ages waiting for the verdict & ignored what seemed a plea from V that he couldn`t help it as he fell.
I felt sorry for VW - he may be a multi-millionaire but he`s got feelings, and having had a relatively glittering career, to then believe he`s got purpose, to help NL and a struggling team to get out of a hole, then suddenly he falls flat on his face - it`s a long way down and must have hurt his pride a lot. I think it was Joe who said in his interview for DAFC home site, that VW apologised to the team after the game.
In NL`s post match comments, when asked about it, he chuckled, made light of it - said V`s gonna help the team. I never liked NL afore - never forgave him for the remarks he made to wind up Greg Shields? in yon cup final. But he`s one of us now. I like the way he refers to `we` and doesn`t talk about the team as `they.` I think he means to do his best for us.
And I was delighted to hear the Pars fans chanting Wanyama`s name, though not sure if they kept it up after the red.
On to the next challenge.

When he signed I said he will need to get fit…miss the Ayr/Lininston games and then play after doing fitness/training as he could be a great asset to the team.
He made a mistake like all of the team has done but felt it was unfair to put him right in the team coming on as a sub.
I just don’t understand why Cooper doesn’t start?

Wanyama should never have even been on the bench.
This isn’t Roy of The Rovers stuff where a former star comes back after a lengthy time off to save the day but a relegation battle in which we are mired in.

You have to think that Lennon thought he could do a better job than Clay, having seen them both in training.
I can’t imagine he just through him on there as a circus act to entertain the crowd. (Which sadly happened)

Higgys, regarding Clay:
If NL hadn`t had time to form strong opinions about our players based on the little he`d seen of them, to guide his selections for what was always gonna be a tough game - not a match for experimenting, particularly in defence and midfield - does it not seem logical that he would try to make it strongest by choosing players with more experience and/or those who had played at higher levels?
Hence, our defence and midfield was made up of our most experienced players, plus Mullen, Oakley-Boothe, Raymond and Wanyama, who had all played at higher levels than e.g. Clay?
Maybe another reason to choose VW over Clay was proven temperament for high pressure matches, (could also apply to e.g. Oakley-Boothe U17 England world cup winner.)

Worst attempt at a fishing trip on here In a while after seeing the nick of him when he came on he should have been nowhere near the team on Saturday
I smoke like a lum and knock pints back like water and even I could move and turn quicker than him on Saturday

I had a feeling it would go wrong at the weekend. Lennon may be a better manager than McPake and Tidser, that remains to be seen, but he is NOT a miracle worker. A few days training isn`t going to see a magical turnaround. Being honest, he`d struggle to see that in even the games he has left.

Ref Dunfy Dave, 31 Mar 19:19 & Dave 1885 today, 08:46
Thank you for your comments. I`d got out of the habit of thanking anyone for their posts, but no doubt most of us like to get a positive response - a bit of encouragement - including `Volkswagon` and `Netherlands`! 🤑
Pretty classy nicknames I would say, doubt if either of them would be offended.
