I don`t like to be negative, but this is a total irrelevance of a tournament. I know many of the players on show will be on eye-watering salaries, but they shouldn`t be asked to play virtually all year round.
How many days between the end of this tournament and the start of pre-season training?
Not your average Sunday League player.

I agree, not only do i think the players need a break bit I think fans do to.
I know I like space to watch, get involved and just even think about other things, so i can then look forward to seeing football again when the season starts up again
Also theres the law of diminishing returns, the more competitions you have, the more you devalue the ones you already got

You can never usually get too much of a good thing, but I think there are too many competitions that make too many demands on players and fans. Will those who control the sport end up killing the golden goose?

Two points. Firstly when the European Cup first started I think only a handful of national champions participated. Reaction from media and supporters was lukewarm. Was it any better received in it`s second year? I don`t know but Real Madrid still count both successes in those years as major trophies. I`m sure a similar argument could be made regarding the World Cup. None of these tournaments begin as being successes. They grow into it. It may be the same with this competition in years to come.
Secondly, we have a very Eurocentric view on this. We`ve got the champions league and the other Euro competitions which bring in huge sums of money and allows European clubs to remain top of the tree. What about the South American clubs though and the others from the Americas and Africa and so on? Maybe they are ecstatic with the eye watering sums of money on offer in this tournament as well as the extra global media exposure on them.
And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Not surprising - it’s effectively Bayern Vs Arbroath. Auckland left some players in NZ as they had work commitments so couldn’t travel. They are a part time side btw, in the competition due to winning the Oceana Champions League.

Think it`s more Bonnyrigg Rose v Bayern.
Disappointed in Bayern they looked like they wanted more than 10. Because Juniors next for Auckland..🫣.
Still £3.5 million not to be sniffed at.

Auckland`s amateur players reportedly have a salary cap of 150 New Zealand dollars (around £66) per week, while Harry Kane is reported to be earning £400,000 per week at Bayern. On that basis, it would take Auckland`s best-paid player about 117 years to earn Kane`s weekly salary.
Auckland`s squad is valued at 4.58m euros (around £3.9m) by Transfermarkt, while Bayern`s is valued at 903.5m euros (around £769m).
Oceania`s sole representatives at the tournament, Auckland are getting £2.6m in prize money for taking part, while European clubs – including Bayern – stand to earn between £9.9m and £29.6m.
Bayern are currently ranked sixth in Opta`s Power Rankings – a global team ranking system – but Auckland are down in 5,074th, over 2,500 places below English National League side York City

I see FIFA has decided not to display any anti-racism or anti-discrimination messaging during games at the ongoing Club World Cup. Whether you see any value at all that stuff it should be embarrassing for FIFA to throw away their core principles to cosey up to the local dictator. Course FIFA have no shame so will remain unbothered.

It`s been varied in quality so far due to how poor some of the lesser clubs have been.
It`ll get much better come the knock out stages.
What has been annoying is the game delays due to thunderstorms.

Another game affected by "adverse weather" (Benfica v Auckland)
Heard that if there is one lightning strike within a certain radius then players go off for 30 minutes. They can only return if no further strikes in 30 minutes. Even if there is a strike on 29:59 then they have to stay off another 30 minutes.Theyve already been off over an hour tonight.
Really can`t see people putting up with that at the World cup next year both in the stadium and the viewers.

stevemac = that is the rule across all sports and age groups (right down to youth footie)
If there is a lightning strike within 6 miles there is a 30 min delay from the last strike so yep, you can sit for 29 mins and then the clock resets if there is another one. I coached a footie match where we kicked off at 7pm and the game finished at 11.45pm due to the storms.
I found it totally baffling until a tragic incident with a guy I knew who sadly didnt clear the area during a storm and passed away after he was struck :(

Maybe they should just play on and call it a lightning round .... First team not to lose a player to a lightning strike wins.
They could call it sudden death , with the emphasis on it really will be a sudden death.
Ye ken .... 🤔

A couple of years back my local club (Maritzburg United - before they relocated to Durban) had a player die after being struck by lightening while training. A footballer was killed in Peru and somewhere I read a whole team was killed by lightening during a game while their opponents all survived. Thus major lightening storms are not a joke. Locally I have only been to one match with a long lightening storm delay.

Interesting since my 8yo was playing a football festival at Kildrum last weekend and they refused to stop anything despite the lightening and the coaches chose to pull the team.

I was basing my observation on here in Scotland as it is extremely rare that lightning could be an issue. However can appreciate now how different it can be elsewhere..... although I stand by my comments about how fans/TV companies could react to it wh n it comes to delays.

Just watched PSG destroy Real Madrid 4-0. Xabi Alonso will be gone before the start of next season.
Chelsea V PSG in the final, both clubs have already made over 60m in prize money with the winner topping 100m.
This thing is here to stay, and you know what , I`ve not been disappointed in what I`ve seen.

Just a disappointment that the Brazil clubs are so devoid of the personality that so defined their football from the past seventy odd years. Vinny Jnr at Real Madrid must be one of the most overrated players ever. Not saying he isn`t a good player but he`s not in the same bracket as Ronaldo,Ronaldinho or Romario. Not even a Kaka or Rivaldo. Don`t think Brazilian football has ever recovered from being humiliated by the Germans in 2014. Worse still for them is that they took all the wrong lessons from that humbling.
