There was a bit of shouting and gesticulating, as the Dunfermline young lads passed the Morton boys on the street outside. I didn`t think it came to much but like most sensible people, I lengthened my stride and left it as quickly as possible.

If you search Cappielow Carnage on YouTube - Pars boy with a bucket hat getting arrested for something.

Cop comes in pretty heavy handed on two other boys.

Absolutely outrageous from the copper that comes steaming in, completely uncalled for & dangerous throwing two wee guys into the fence like that. Should be a sackable offence minimum.

See if the two “wee guys” didn’t have their hands all over officers trying to detain someone else, Id agree, but unfortunately the youth of today have zero respect for officers.

West Coast cops taking a different line from what wee darlings are used to in Fife.

Absolute apologist for a scumbag policeman shoving his 22 stone fat body into a couple of 15 year olds. Bully.

Just as well some of you snowflakes didn’t live in the days when the local copper would give you a skelp round the lug for misbehaving. You’d never have survived.

I`m no fan of the police as most will know, but that looked to me like at least one of the two guys behind the female police officer on the group had his hands on her trying to prevent her from doing her job, so the chap charging in was probably justified in barging them away from his colleague. Too many wee neds these days think they can behave how they want without consequences so maybe that wee nudge will make them think twice. Could have broke their necks right enough, but that would have learned them

PARrot, polis is a collective noun so you have to say "the polis IS bassas."

Reminds of the story of the wee boy who wrote exactly that after two local police officers visited his primary class. The teacher was pleased he used the singular verb, but appalled at the sentiment expressed so she asked the police if they could help. They took the boy to an advanced driving skid pan and spun the boy around in a police car for over an hour. He had a great time. Next day, the teacher asked him to write a new account of his experience with the police.

He wrote, "The police is cunning bassas!" 😁

Hmmm, I don`t agree. I think the Parrot`s wording is perfectly acceptable stylistically, if perhaps not in polite company ...

It is correct that a singular collective noun generally uses a singular verb. But there are situations where either a singular or plural verb is required, depending on context.
SINGULAR: "The football team is winning the match", "The orchestra is playing Mozart" etc
PLURAL: "The football team have all got red hair", "The orchestra are tuning their instruments" etc

The difference is whether the verb relates to an action or characteristic of the collective noun as a whole, or of the individual members of it.

There is also the question of whether "polis" can be a singular noun as well as a collective noun. I think it can:
"Tam Broon has joined the polis" (collective noun)
"Yon big polis is Tam Broon" (singular noun)
In this respect it differs from the English "police", which I think would always be a collective noun.

In Parrot`s example, it seems clear he is referring to the individual characteristics of police officers, and therefore it is correct (linguistically but inaccurately) to say "The polis are bastards." This is made clearer if the sentence were "The polis, except Tam Broon, are bastards."

I need to get out more.

I saw the video today and the two guys were behind and arresting officer. They could easily have been holding a weapon and the 3rd officer reacted appropriately in the situation. In my view he was lucky he wasn’t lifted as well, for perverting the course of justice that holds jail time.
Don’t need people that supporting the Pars. Out them and ban them.
