 Wee Team mentality further evidenced

Something that`s not been mentioned here (unless I`m wrong) is that the results of the Raith Rovers fan vote showed 80% in favour of the proposed cooperation agreement with (the) Rangers.

Raith Rangers. They will maybe eventually change their name to that, adopt light blue colours instead of the traditional dark blue.
I guess becoming a feeder club is befitting their Wee Team status

Key Terms of the Proposed Agreement:

- Rangers may nominate a maximum of three players to move freely between Rangers and Raith Rovers.

- Rangers will cover the full salary of any player who joins Raith Rovers.

- Eligible players must be under the age of 21 and qualified to represent Scotland.

- Raith Rovers can decline any player who is not deemed suitable for our squad.

- Raith Rovers are under no obligation to play any Rangers player as part of this agreement.

- This agreement does not replace the traditional loan system. Raith Rovers may still register up to six SPFL loan players if we choose to do so.

If you think this system is for the benefit of clubs like Raith Rovers then I`ve a bridge to sell to you.

Rusty,

In theory it should be mutually beneficial but the rovers will only benefit from it if they are offered players that improve their matchday squad. That is what the whole thing hinges on. Even if not tho, they haven’t lost anything.

All Rangers are doing is basically beating the system that stopped a B team being allowed in the SPFL so send out their promising youth players to gain experience against full time pros with Raith Rovers.
I’m not blaming Raith.
They don’t have to pay their wages and don’t have to even play them but they get the pick of the crop.
It’s not a great long term model for a football team with ambition though.
Better to have a team of players that you own on decent contracts you can sell on so your club benefits and not Rangers.

It doesn`t seem like Rovers are being backed the way they were in the first season after the former kelty board came in.

The fans will be hoping this helps make up that difference by a few of the loans doing well.

Does that mean a team could field nine "loan" players of one sort or another?

If what we hear about Lennon not being keen on loans is true, hopefully that means we won`t have anything to do with this kind of arrangement either.

Not opposed to being the parent club.

Excellent deal for Rovers, and a similar deal in place for Ayr with Celtic. We might hopefully get into a deal with someone from Top flight as it’s clearly a good option if they are better than what you’ve already got. Aberdeen have deals with Kelty and Elgin.

It`s very difficult to get a good solution that benefits the clubs, the national team, and most importantly the young players themselves. I thought B Teams might be a step in the right direction but having a team made up solely of young players at the 5th tier isn`t ideal. They need some experienced players alongside them in these games to help them learn their trade. A reserve league or U23 league like they have in England won`t help them develop, they need competitive football for that.

The big clubs are hoovering up the best young players but they aren`t going to get a chance at their parent club without experience. The 5th tier isn`t a high enough level so if they can get out to Championship or League One clubs that`s going to need to be the next stepping stone for them. Possibly they need to open up the leagues so that B Teams can go up as far as League One, but never get promoted beyond that, and have some experienced men playing beside them

I`m not sure it is anywhere near an "excellent deal".

Getting players with no wages is undoubtedly good short-term, but they`re likely to fill gaps in their squad where their homegrown players would normally be. Long term, it`s likely to limit the gametime of their own youths, and therefore reduce the likelihood of developing their own players.

Also, if a player hits a purple patch, the parent club can just recall them to their first team squad outwith the transfer window. It has the potential to cause uncertainty in their squad during key periods.

It may work, and good luck to them if it does, but not for me.

I’m 100% against B Teams entering the league structure, which I have stated many times before. Although I’d hate us to have a similar agreement with another pro club, I do get why teams like Raith Rangers want to go down this route.

I’m actually really surprised as many supporters polled, we’re in favour of it.

remains to be seen what players Rangers offer up but take out Celtic, the other teams dont have the players that are worth partnering up for this season imo.

as for being a parent club, the ability to recall a player at any time is useful but how many of them are going to be near the first team to merit doing the agreement? probably better off just doing a normal loan for the same players and taking in a wage contribution.

Me too. It blows my mind that anyone of any age would vote to be in a partnership with them in particular. It`s wild. And we`re not talking a Brexit special of 52:48.... Eighty percent voted in favour. Eighty!!!

80% is high, but the response was less than 1000, also no way to verify if they were all wee team fans either.

It`s not a terrible idea, but struggling to see the use of it for Championship teams, I guess there`s nothing to lose.

Would work for league 2 and lower though, especially when most teams are struggling to maintain squads with the minimum wage pushing up PT players wages.

I think of we were in the top flight continuing our youth and recruitment policy (which has thrown up quite a few players already) would be a no brainer for us to enter a partnership with a reasonably local PT team

Is it that big a deal? They don`t have to take any of the players and any they do will have their wages paid by Rangers. Only downside is obviously the players aren`t theirs but how is that any different to a loan?

Am I the only one that thinks this is actually a decent bit of business? Pretty sure they’ll be getting some financial reward out of it (not huge, but still something) and access to Rangers fringe players without it costing them or taking up a loan slot.

I doubt we’ll get involved though as Lennon’s never been big on loan deals.

c'mon the pars

Maybe with him having links to Celtic and Hibs, he doesn`t feel the need to get in bed with another club.
