Not sure what the post was, but I couldn`t give two hoots about the coefficient.

Doesn’t the coefficient also contribute towards Scotland’s pots in qualifiers ?

I don`t think so - that`s purely based on national team performance.

Separate co-efficient for the national and club trans.
After this week, it’s certainly bugg***d for Scottish clubs.

It used to but they decoupled it, I think it changed around the start of the nations league which is used to seed National teams now

If you have any type of long term thinking capability and see there being even a remote chance for us to finish in the top 5 in the SPL or maybe get to a cup final, the coefficient starts to be somewhat relevant to Dunfermline athletics fortunes.

Not really.
I judge Dunfermline`s fortunes on our ability to compete and win things in Scotland. The gap between the OF and the rest is so laughably large that it`s a `shock` when someone other than the OF makes a final, let alone wins a trophy .
The coefficient plays a huge role that gap widening.
I`d happily trade a few less entries into European comps to increase our chances of actually winning something.

A poor coefficient plays a bigger role in the gap widening 🤷🏻♂️
A better coefficient gives the smaller clubs a better chance of progression and a better chance of making more money while a poor coefficient would mean the top two will become the only two with a chance of making money.
The gap in wealth (and because more money = more signing power) is clear, so I don’t understand how limiting the opportunities for everyone else would benefit closing that gap? Surely more money and more exposure to European fixtures would benefit the smaller clubs? I actually think both Aberdeen and Hibs were unlucky but they’d both benefit from having the same opportunity next season. It would allow them to rectify the mistakes they’ve made this time 🤷🏻♂️

The recent amount of guaranteed money , teams like Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs , get for going to the group stages between 5and 7 million risks a 3 tier Premier league , with the old firm, then the next 3 , financially breaking away from the rest.

Rangers and Celtic should be able to get some decent coefficient points in the Europa. Aberdeen have a really tough draw, statistically the hardest when you look at relative coefficient points, so they`ll do well to get many.

Maybe we should just shut Scottish football off from all European competitions and have our own wee football world!!!! IT’LL BE AMAZING!!!! We could play spin the bottle to see who wins the league the first season but get this-they aren’t allowed to win next seasons league a since they’ve already won it. That way, it gets shared out equally between all teams
C’mon man! Like there’s always going to be teams more dominant than others, it happens in every league in the world. We are just in the position that the Glasgow ugly sisters are double the size of everyone so they’ll always be a step in front of the rest of us. 3rd down however-that always changes 🤷🏻♂️

Yeah it does look difficult for them! Still be great if they can pull something out the bag maybe a couple of wins at Pittodrie and see what happens

It’s a disgrace that the champions of any league in Europe don’t automatically qualify for the Champions League. Only once the champions are secured should the remaining places be allocated based on coefficient rankings.

I agree to extent. I do wonder though, is there a line where the champions don’t automatically qualify? I mean like the champions of Malta/Gibraltar and similar leagues. Should they also qualify automatically?

"Should they also qualify automatically?"
Absolutely! They have more right being there as Champions, in a "Champions League" than teams who finished 4th in their league. And the money they make at these stages can help build the league to be more competitive, assuming they don`t splurge the money on useless duds like the top team in Scotland.
It should be about sporting integrity rather than getting the tourist teams playing each other

Spurs finished 17th last season and are in the Champions League……..that sums up how corrupt it really is.
Aukland FC got pumped by Bayern in the Club World Cup but have come out of it about £10m richer and the players will have loved the experience.
Champions League should be for that - Champions. Instead the rich will only get richer.

Thread started in jest, at the poor results this week.
The Europa league looks like decent compensation for falling out of the Champions League. Scottish football is a stale, 4 games a season self-perpetuating cycle, where progress in any Europe competition is the exception rather than the rule.
How do Scottish clubs get better without regularly playing different opponents?
Sound familiar? We’ve been arguing that for years!

Why not? Well there are 55 UEFA members for a start plus the defending champions so that`s 56 teams in the groups. Then what do you do with the Europa League winners spot? They would have won a arguably more difficult competition if you aren`t letting 2nd/3rd etc teams from stronger nations.

Then you have qualification rounds like they do currently, but only for the Champions. Some of these clubs that qualify will then benefit from the extra money and maybe close the gap to the next level.
Clubs like Kairat, Pafos etc now have a chance to improve and qualify more regularly.
Unfortunately Europes elite wont allow the smaller clubs to gain that sort of money. If they did, they’d be off creating the Super League instead.
The Champions League is all that is wrong with modern day football in a nutshell.

When you are at the point 4th place teams from some leagues are qualifying, you can’t call it the “champions league” any more. They are the champions of precisely f**k all. Rename it the “European telly rights money league”.

There was 5 places in England that got it this year, along with 17th placed Spurs from the Europa…….

I realise I asked a facetious question earlier but I actually agree with the majority of points. I also don’t think a blanket “every champion in Europe” would work these days. There is just to big a gap now for their not to be some sort of qualification or pyramid structure. Having said that, I don’t think the amount of places the big leagues get is justified but I’m not sure where the cut off between teams from bigger leagues and smaller leagues should be.
