Dunfermline Athletic are willing to let Matty Todd leave before the close of the window.
The midfielder is in the final year of his East End Park contract.
Todd has slipped down the pecking order, as Neil Lennon’s Pars have gone for a more youthful approach.
The 24-year-old is looking to get his career back and firing.
A number of English and Scottish teams are monitoring his situation closely.
Todd came through the Pars’ youth ranks and is looking to get back to the sort of level where he was hitting double figures for the Fifers from the middle of the park.

hasnt started a game this season and with potentially 5 players ahead of him in that attacking midfielder role, not a surprise he might go.
its more the where and how, a year left on his contract, would think it will be a permanent deal for a fee?

Lennon obviously doesn’t fancy him. Had a cracking season in League One win, but moments have been few and far between in Championship. Injuries obviously didn’t help so this comes as no surprise.
He’ll move on with best wishes.

I agree that his attitude cant be questioned. Like others that have come through from youth level over the years, their passion shines through. Ability and/or consistency is the thing that is lacking I’d say.

Hopefully no players read this forum, but if the do what I would say is that it doesn`t matter what people think of you it matters what you think of yourself. If other people dont believe in you, as long as you believe in yourself, you will succeed.
A move and fresh challenge may do him some good. I wish him well and thank him for his contribution to the football club.

Players like Comrie, McCann & Tod, while all giving their best for the club, were never going to take us to the next level. Lennon sees this and is capable of making the hard decisions that are necessary if we are to progress. Not all his signings will necessarily work out, but I believe he knows what he is doing and will take us in the right direction.

It`s just somebody`s opinion though. Nothing`s set in stone. Somebody at Fleetwood, who are playing at a higher level than us, has given McCann a 2-year contract. The same could happen to Todd. I don`t know where Comrie is at the moment.

Yes, it`s my opinion. However it is clearly Neil Lennon`s opinion as well as he has let them go. There is always the chance that they could flourish elsewhere but if they couldn`t cut it at our level, it`s unlikely they will do it at a higher level.

It`s a higher level, but it`s not Liverpool he has joined, and he isn`t playing against PSG every week.
He can easily get everything together and kick on, Matty Todd certainly can, it happens all the time, lots of players bouncing about our level then play lower league English, some make it, some don`t .

Yes, and another professional football person has a different opinion. He`s probably got a better financial deal than he had with us. What`s so difficult to accept about that? Players move on and have a change of fortune. It happens all the time in football.

My dad and I were talking about Matty Todd last night, we both said we really wanted it to work out for him at Dunfermline but if we were both honest we didn’t think it would. He hasn’t kicked on and shown enough in the championship. Injuries haven’t helped. I couldn’t really see him forcing his way into the team since we brought in Caceres, McLeod and Bray who will all be ahead of him in the pecking order.
Hopefully a move gets his career back on track.

I’ll be sad to see him go. I feel as though, if he could get back to his best, he’s worth a start in our midfield. He’s scored some sublime goals in recent years and strikes at Airdrie, Alloa, the lob vs Clyde and the goal at firhill were memorable.

You must be one of Matty`s teammates to come out with such a claim, alwaysaPar. That`s quite a change in attitude from when McPake was appointed as the Pars manager. He said that when he arrived at EEP, the players were still on holiday, but there was Todd lapping the track around the pitch.....
Not your average Sunday League player.

I think Matty Todd doesn`t get the space and time he got in league one and simply finding it more difficult a level up.
He doesn`t have a trick to beat a man and open up space for himself. You rarely see him put his foot on the ball and keep it. His game is making late runs into the box or a long range ping. You need more to your game if you are not getting the space to do that.

Thought this might happen, had a few opportunities to impress Lennon last season and instead of showing well, it went the other way and he very poor. Has a knack for a goal but doesn’t offer a lot outside of that unfortunately and it’s not enough in the top half of the championship.
The best thing about Lennon and it’s why we’ll improve as a team is that we are no longer over persevering with mediocre players at this level hoping they will finally come good.
If McCann can land at fleetwood then matty will have no probs finding another club if he’s free to leave. Assume it would be a free as can’t see him commanding much cash and if he did we prob would have sold him under the last regime.

It’s all been said, injuries haven’t helped him but I will always hold a wee soft spot for him, after the job he did for us in League 1 and being a Dunfermline supporter who lived the dream.

Why pick on other players to make the point? Especially KRH - who also excelled in League 1, has had injury issues and is also out of contract at the end of the season.

Seems to me the youth academy direction is being abandoned for the time being by the new owners.

I don`t see anything wrong with this. He is free to find another club or he is free to stay and see out his contract.
Better to be honest with him, rather than waste a whole season for the player kicking his heals.
Matty Todd and all the fringe players are free to bust a guy in training also!

they will have known well before now and some will have been pushing to get away themselves, thats how the game works, nothing to do with "this treatment"
yep the academy is being abandoned with the Tod brothers starting, Todd is not good enough in his position with others ahead of him thats why he is potentially leaving, whether he came through the academy should be irrelevant.

I think it’s quite likely Lenny has discussed this with Matty Todd some days or weeks before it went public. Going public might suggest that maybe as the window closes, Matty and his agent are looking to get a couple more offers on the table before he decides where he is going.
