 SK Brann Stadium
Topic Originator: Saline_par
Date:   Tue 21 Oct 22:14

I am now living in Bergen, Norway, and was at SK Brann`s 4-1 win on Saturday. On my way out the stadium, I spotted the Pars` club badge on a wooden crest on the wall alongside the Dundee United and Airdrionians badges.
I had a look online but couldn`t find any obvious link between the clubs (no European ties, or friendlies to note).
Anyone on here know of anything obvious that I`m missing?

P.S. Got a ticket for the game vs Rangers on Thursday, here`s hoping for a tough start for Mr Rohl.

That`s a weird one, can`t think of any links- first thought it was ex footballers in the 60s/ early 70s( we had Geir Karlsen, and the splendidly named Bent Martin) but they didn`t come from Brann I believe, I know Dundee Utd also had a few Scandinavians, but Airdrieonians I don`t think.

The Scandinavian countries were fertile hunting grounds as most of the players were on amateur contracts and could be picked up for nothing.

Ask around, I`m intrigued.

Having lived in Lund, Sweden for many years and having become a Swedish Citizen, I also became a fan of Malmö FF.

This was a topic of Conversation with Marv who I remember mentioned that she had been in Sweden quite a few times for football related stuff and potentially wider Scandinavia...maybe she could be the one to ask?

Might be worth contacting the club secretary for more info as I can see no obvious connection other than a Pars fan in the past donating it to the wall.
Perhaps a person of note on the club was Scottish and put this and the others up for no reason than he wanted to? lol

BIG T - Malmö doesn`t have all that much in honesty. I`d recommend Malmö Brewing Taproom for some nice local beer and there`s also Hyllie Bryggeri right next to Central Station. Via Napoli has some really nice pizza and from there you can take a walk out by the water and then walk around Västerhamn. Some good Indian and Middle Eastern food (mainly kebab) around Malmö Brewing in the Möllanstorget area.

Not sure how long you`re there but a wee trip to Lund or up to Helsingborg or Lomma for a walk along the water is always nice. Copenhagen is awesome as well, particularly the Kødbyen and Nørrebro areas.

BIG T - I agree that Malmö isn`t the most touristy of cities (Lund and Helsingborg are prettier), but the old area around Gustav Adolfs Torg and Lilla Torg is interesting, and it`s also near the Disgusting Food Museum 😀
If you just want a photo op to show you`ve been, the Turning Torso building is for you, but I don`t think you can go to the top.

Thank you lads. Appreciate that 👍 Think we're gonna try and figure out how to get to Lund, we're in Copenhagen at the moment.

I got a response from the club:

Hi!

That’s a great observation and a good question!

As the story goes; a Brann supporter who had this as a hobby, and who knew a former Brann employee, actually donated all those club crests to the club as a gift. It was such a huge and detailed piece of work that it was impossible to say no 😊 This was quite a few years ago, so they might be due for an update soon — but at the time, the club really appreciated the gesture.

That`s such a great story! I`m trying to imagine a Norwegian painting those badges, it`s probably pre internet as well, he must have been a real fan, pretty random clubs too.

Enjoy the game!

Bent Martin was a Dane - he played for the local team against Celtic in the ECWC and had an absolute blinder - Big Jock signed him on the back of that performance.

He only played one game for Celtic before he came to EEP - a good move for him, leading to a Scottish Cup medal 1968.

His daughter Camilla was a world champion badminton player and Olympic silver medalist.

He was in banking and turned down an international call because he had an important career exam in conflict. I don`t think he ever had another opportunity.

Good pal of Roy Barry.
