elements of truth in it for GMFC to release a statement
"The club have been made aware of a voice note circulating. while we do not wish to get involved in online rumours, we do unfortunately feel it necessary to make a short comment given the nature of the accusations contained.
We are aware the author of the voice note has issued the following:
“Over the last few days a personal message of mine, sent in good faith, has been leaked.
This message was never intended to get out to the wider public and it shouldn’t have.
Within this paraphrased message was information given to me by trusted third parties with what I believed at the time to be the truth.
I have since been informed about the full version of events and accept with deep regret that there were inaccuracies within the message.
I’d like to apologise for the feeling of distress and embarrassment that this episode has caused those on the Greenock Morton board, namely John Laird and Sam Robinson, as well as Dougie Imrie and his family.”
We would like to thank the author for the way he has approached the situation since the note was unfortunately shared widely, and hope to see him back at Cappielow soon.
Dougie was in the ground yesterday to collect his things and say his goodbyes. He had several positive conversations with members of the Board where he thanked the club for their support over the last four years and wished everyone all the best for the future.
Likewise, as stated on Tuesday, we are extremely grateful for Dougie’s efforts over the last four years at the club and for the impact he has made during his tenure.
The version of events which has unfortunately been widely circulated does not accurately represent the events that have taken place, but given the above, we do not wish to drag this out further by going into the details.
As outlined in the statement on Tuesday, now is the time for us all to come together and get behind the squad ahead of a run of extremely important games, starting with a hugely important cup tie in Peterhead tomorrow."
