If it was last season they would have taken a hammer to the undersoil heating system, and put air con units on the pitch to try get the game scrapped , but aye hopefully they have them down

I`m fairly sure that is a bit of a gripe with County fans, fed up with players and managers not moving up, so a fair bulk of the squad will be based South of the warning.

Is it not standard practice for players to meet at the home stadium and travel together on the team bus? Or would that be waived for players living closer to the away ground, would they be allowed to travel directly to the away ground and meet the team there?
For example, if a Ross County player lived in Perth, presumably there's no requirements for him to trek 3hrs up the a9, just to jump on the team coach and come all the way back down again?

Not to sure about “common practice” these days but I do know, in years gone by, that we’ve picked players up at service stations or locations on route. I’ve also known players to use their own cars if they live closer. Probably depends on the manager I suppose.

A confusing thread, I thought everyone knew Ross County are a full time club based in Dingwall!
The players train in Dingwall, next to the stadium at the he Highland football academy. They are on record ( this season also) as saying they have difficulty persuading players to move up there, this is one of the reasons they pay top dollar.
Like Inverness, they have a fair bit of club flats, and I think for example senior players stay there, and go home if they have family on time off, just like a job where you work away ( like I do, amongst many)
I understand pretty much all the players live in Inverness, Dingwall isn`t much bigger than Inverkeithing.
Remember the furore when ICT wanted to bin Inverness and train at Kelty?

Random pub quiz fact - Ross County stadium is the only ground in Scotland (possibly UK?) where the stadium has a higher capacity than than the population of the town itself

Aye, and even some full time teams like St Johnstone some players drive themselves to away games, remember a few years ago when there was a bad accident and a couple of players were caught up in it and couldn`t make the game!
I guess it`s up to each club, due to practicality, I know QOS aren`t really based in Dumfries (train in Ayr or Glasgow?) Peterhead used to be based for recruitment and training in Dundee etc. it would make no sense to meet up at the home ground for away games.

Actually, this reminds me, only a few weeks ago, QOS players were in cars and caught up in an accident before our game was cancelled on the Challenge Cup.

Assuming these are the same as last season and the season before. The ones I know are….QOS train at Broadwood in Cumbernauld, Arbroath train in Denny (Dunipace FC), Stranraer on Glasgow Green, Peterhead in Perth somewhere and Brechin at Stirling Uni.

Cheers Buster, these are all isolated towns, impossible to recruit locally I guess , how do you run a full time club in Dumfries?
Must eat up the budget in particular Brechin and Stranraer - teams with small supports. Peterhead in Perth is pretty mad! I know it was Dundee when McInally was manager, which is bad enough. I wonder the reason.

No problem at all. I worked with Jim McInally previously, the reason Peterhead trained in Dundee was because he got the school they trained in at a seriously discounted rate, almost free, because he knew the coordinator. It was the same when he was at East Stirlingshire, Craig Tully (one of the players) was the Janitor at Dunblane High, so for a few years they trained there.
Running a Full Time team in Dumfries must have its challenges, especially when there’s little grassroots football played there and Southern League is nowhere near even the level of the Highland or Lowland league. I think QOS, Stranraer & Annan do a great job with their hands tied behind their backs.

I agree, these are 3 cracking clubs, and I fear for Annan and Stranraer in particular, with the lowland league trapdoor opening eventually, I just think it will happen eventually - great grounds to visit. Berwick were a really decent league team with a decent following, but I think a couple of bad seasons they don`t recover.
I also miss going to Firs Park- sadly just a wasteland now, and E Stirlingshire probably going to slide down , with no real base now. Sadly Cowdenbeath too.

The weather may impact travel conditions more locally of course, depending on next 24 hours.
Not just by car etc. - underfoot is also a factor.
Fingers crossed no deterioration.

Travel will hinge on how much snow in the wee small hours. Traffic Scotland cameras show the A9 as clear at the minute, but very little traffic will be helping to activate the grit/clear the snow overnight.
