Just what we need. Another inexperienced player added to the rotation. I’ve lost count of the amount of English championship loan signings that have been hopeless for us, over the last few years. Here’s hoping he is different.

Hopefully we have done our homework. The previous two loans from Bristol were not a great success. He is 5-11/6ft and quick so hopefully he can offer a presence and a few goals upfront.
Interesting post below from a Bristol supporter;
In simplistic terms he's a similar player to Sincs - as noted by GS, Olly's strong and quick. But, for me, he's not as strong as Sincs and he's not as quick as Sincs but, at 20 last April, he is two years younger than Sincs and has scope for developing further. You can see why GS thinks he's an interesting fit for our system.
Where I think Olly differs from Sincs is in terms of mentality. Olly is more aggressive, perhaps more immature but he absolutely relishes the physical side of the game. I watched him in London against the QPR development side when he was still 17. He got into a running battle with a bigger, older, uglier centre-back, plenty of chat that carried on down the tunnel at half-time to the extent that the Rangers guy was offering Olly out in the car park. Olly returned for the second half (from the changing room not the car park), curled a 20 yard shot into the top corner and home we went with a 1-0 win.
Last season he started slowly, scoring only once in his first fourteen games. I watched him at Brentford (we lost) where he managed to get into a fight after the final whistle had been blown and was shown a red card. I also watched him at Bromley in the Premier League Cup (we lost), hauled off in the second half after an ineffectual performance he sat desolate against the barriers, 30 yards from the dug-out. With six months left on his contract, I'm guessing that was the low point and possibly turning point because he finished the season in exceptional goal-scoring form - ten goals in the last 16 games including a hat-trick against Swansea (we lost!) and two more in the first half an hour of the last game at Coventry (yep, we lost again). Unfortunately, after his second at Coventry, he was injured in a nasty tackle but had done enough for a one year contract extension. He returned to the U21s last month, two sub appearances and a 45 minute start against Bournemouth in front of GS. He's scored twice. I love watching Olly - you never know what you are going to get with him - he brings a bit of chaos to the game - maybe that's why GS likes him.
Thanks for that mate, really interesting. I love that kind of aggression in a player, and it would be good to see him give some stick to a Championship defender (in a controlled way obvs).

Am i wrong in saying he’s not at all what’s needed to push on second half of the season? Surely you’d prioritise an experienced goalscorer? Although happy to be wrong

Well after Indiapars post I think he could be useful in getting in about other teams..a bit like Hammy and not let big CH’s control the game…I’m sure Lennon will have him fired up for his first game!

You’ve got to give him a chance. You can’t write someone off just because previous loans haven’t worked out. It might not come off, but it’s a wait-and-see for me before judging him either way.

I`ll wait and see what he does for us before writing him off before I see him. He`s just signed a new 2 and a half year deal with Bristol City, so they must like something about him.
Folk who have never heard of him, never mind seen him play starting their negative nonsense. Must be a joy to live with such pessimistic people.

I’ll take him on the assumption we still have another more experienced striker to come in and he’s here to allow the likes of Tod to be rested of brought off.
From the amount of loans we’ve had from down south surely we are long overdue a good one? He’s not played to any sort of level and he’s going into a young relatively inexperienced team in a big physical competitor league with little time on the ball so not holding out much hope but it’s the hope that gets you.

Malachi Fagan Walcott was a loan and a success story from down south so there are some gems to be found
Chikoa-Mullen came from a similar level too.

Still a few weeks for the window to end. I doubt they’d sell him right now anyway.
As to Olly, know next to nothing about him but he’ll be used from the bench to noise up defences if nothing else.

On the Bristol supporters forum, some felt that the loan spells their previous players they had did not improve them, and they can`t understand why they are sending anyone else to us. Just another perspective.
One quote "Who is our contact at Dunfirmline?
Thats Yebeoh, OTC and Olly Thomas we've sent them now in the past year.
You'd think we'd be able to get some team closer to home? The Scottish Championship is not a great place for a young player to shine."

We`ve got Rudden, Kane, and Tod, not to mention others like the Sutherlands, in mid season, I don`t see any decent strikers available, if they are , every man and his dog needs a striker.

It would seem that Bristol City have high hopes for this lad and a plan to achieve them if they extended his contract by two and a half years and then immediately loaned him out to the Pars.

Yep, and he`s just starting out his career too, could really hit the ground running- certainly a unit, so that generally works in the Championship.
We have Rudden, Kane and Tod, so another option, also we can`t rely on Kane at all.I can`t see any experienced strikers available anyway, not in the winter window.
