There`s a helpful list on COWS of all the Pars` players currently out on loan -

Thomas Margetts (16) at St Andrews United
Liam Hoggan (19) at Gala Fairydean Rovers
Ewan McLeod (19) at East Fife – returned to Dunfermline due to injury
Sam Young (19) at Tranent
Alasdair Davidson (19) at Bo’ness United
Danny Dobbie (18) at Bonnyrigg Rose
Freddie Rowe (18) at Bo’ness United, (East Fife from 4th January)
Mark Beveridge (18) at Glenrothes
Zeke Cameron (18) at Stenhousemuir
Jake Sutherland (19) at Forfar Athletic
Taylor Sutherland (20) at Clyde
Connor Young (21) at East Kilbride

Mason Munn is the only player on loan from another club. His loan is until the end of the season and there have no discussions so far with Rangers to review this.

Rangers won`t recall him, as he still features in the odd fixture for their development team so it makes no difference to them unless another offer that guarantees game time comes forward.
From a Dunfermline standpoint it will be interesting how the Terrell "disciplinary issue" plays out. If he is back, I`d send Munn back. If we have players we fancy and need the space, we might send him back. Can`t be doing anyone much use having a keeper not playing.

Been really impressed by Freddie Rowe having seen Bo`ness a few times this season. Technically terrific, just needs games, hopefully he`ll continue to be a starter at East Fife.

Davidson has also been pretty solid, similar to Rowe I think he just needs game time for his decision making.

A lot of promising young players out there getting experience. If even just a few of them make it to the first team, we could be in a good place.

Watched the highlights of the clyde versus forfar game on you tube at the weekend where the 2 Sutherland brothers were playing against each other and both scored for their respective teams and looked pretty good to be honest.

I can`t remember a time when we`ve had such a crop of young players, they are all getting games at a decent level - Freddie Rowe is only 18 and will probably play quite a few games in a decent 3rd tier team, having been good in the Lowland.

They can look at the Tods and see it brings real benefit, and they are being monitored.

So we extend the loan out of a 21 year old goal scorer and bring in an unknown 20 year old. Sam Young now joins Connor at East Kilbride.

Connor Young a goal scorer? 5 goals in 10 games, but all of his goals up until now has come at a considerably lower level than where we are at. At our level, the only evidence we have is 12 games, 1 assist, 0 goals. That’s not goal scoring output, whatever way you dress it up.

As for Olly, we simply don’t know yet. He might adapt, he might not. Hopefully he makes his first appearance today and gives us something to get excited about, but until then it’s all speculation.
As things stand, neither player has scored in the Championship. One is unproven at this level, the other has been given chances and hasn’t delivered in front of goal. Anything beyond that is based on hope rather than evidence.

Lennon: "I think he’ll add to the squad and he’ll give us something a little bit different as well in terms of the pace he has. He is strong and quick. We lack a bit of pace at the top end of the pitch, so he’ll bring that for us, hopefully.”

Is Sam Young really benefiting at playing at such a low level? He played really well in a number of first team games he played in the championship. Regular football is really good but is playing for Tranent really going to give him the experience he needs for the championship?

The difficulty with central defenders is that, 90% of the time, you`re either starting or you`re getting no minutes. Sam did well when he was in our team, but he is still very young (pardon the pun) to be playing regularly at this level.

If he plays regularly at EK, it`ll put him in good stead. Just look at John Tod as an example.

Another issue is that if Tranent was the only offer on the table, then it was either go and get minutes or sit with limited opportunities here. He looked alright when he had a chance with us, albeit in a struggling team. Ideally, he gets regular time at EK, then the natural progression would be a League 1 side next season.

The old “junior” label doesn’t really do those leagues justice anymore. The standard, the physicality, and especially the experience young players come up against is massively different in the last decade. Having someone like Steven Anderson around the Crossgates side a few year ago, a guy who is a Scottish Cup winner, European experience, proper pro standards, that’s gold dust for younger lads. You just don't get that any other way.

The afore mentioned Crossgates is a good example too. It’s obviously nowhere near first team Pars level, but playing with and against ex pros and hardened senior players is a proper football education. Bad injuries, wrong timing, wrong club guys that could easily have played higher. For a young player, that environment teaches you far more than dominating an under 20s game against boys your own age. They have had a few Dunfermline players on loan in the past.

On Sam Young the club worked with what was available, and it’s not his fault Trenent was the only option on the table. From the outside, it looks like one of those loans that actually did what it was meant to do in giving Sam minutes, responsibility, physical tests, and a bit of reality. If Big T reckons it was useful, that probably tells the real story as he is close to the club than I am.

Sometimes these moves don’t look glamorous, but they can be exactly what a young player needs.

It was said in josh, btw 😊

He`s been excellent for us, as would probably be expected. But there are some really good teams in the lowland league, as has been proven with Spartans, EK and Bonnyrigg, holding their own, when promoted. Remember, we ran ICT all the way in the cup and again Sam was excellent that night. It`s understandable that folk, may think of teams like Tranent, as not being of a very high standard, but we`re a very decent team and if we ever got out of the LL, I think we`d do ok in the league.
