Hi GG, just my curiosity, but were you involved with the Pars during the Jocky Scott era? When I was at EEP, Jocky and club captain Craig Robertson would frequently visit the Commercial Department and were always happy to have a blether and a coffee. With the late, great Harry Melrose also in the Department there were some really interesting conversations. As an aside, on my first week there I was phoning local businesses about sponsorship before going out and about on visits, and one of my first phone calls was to someone who was really keen and interested. What I didn`t realise was that I was talking to the Pars Commercial Director! Luckily, he saw the funny side and even praised me for doing my job!
When we were putting together a new lottery, scratch card and prize draw, Audrey and I visited, among others, St Johnstone, Airdrie and even Falkirk. Yes, Falkirk at Brockville! However, I don`t remember there being any animosity between then, and the Falkirk Commercial Manager at the time was an ex Pars player and manager.
Sorry, no more reminiscing, I was only interested in your connections to the Club and I hope you don`t mind me asking!

No problem with you asking, CP, but I had no involvement with the Pars during Jocky Scott`s time at EEP.

I first approached the club to volunteer my services in early 2014, after taking early retirement from teaching. I had an idea that we could use Pars players as role models to promote healthier lifestyles among local primary school pupils.

I was introduced to Ross McArthur, who received my idea very enthusiastically. You`ll remember the Pars had almost gone under the year before. Ross said that the club`s reputation had been badly damaged both with regards to other football clubs and with local businesses that were left unpaid. He thought my idea could help to repair some of the damage done, so here we are, 12 years on. I feel very proud and privileged to still be involved in the Schools Engagement Programme with the Pars Tackle Health initiative, under the auspices of The Pars Foundation.

Many thanks for your response, GG. I`m always interested in how people become involved in football clubs and in what capacity.
I was doing a little bit of voluntary sponsorship for ECFC last year, but it`s tricky trying to arrange school visits when all the players are part-time and have other work commitments.
Thanks also twin par for your comment.

Did Jocky Scott have any involvement with the club - apart from lounging against the side of the dugout ?

Great stuff GG. My son is a secodary school teacher in a less fashionable school in Edinburgh. From what I hear pupil discipline, behaviour and respect are at an all-time low. Good role models might help situations like that, but maybe it`s just a general malaise that has no easy answer.

Great to see these schemes going on .When I was at schools in 60s and 70s, nothing like that happened. Although there were a good number of pars fans,in our classes,we were always out numbered with old firm fans. It’s fantastic the work GG Riva does, and I do notice a lot of younger fans attending east end.

My family moved to Cumbria when I was twelve years old and most of my fellow pupils there were Manchester United "supporters" who thought that every Scot must be either a Rangers or Celtic supporter. I don`t remember anyone ever saying they supported Carlisle United, so the work GG Riva is doing to get local kids interested in the Pars is indeed admirable.

Woah there, CP! Pars Tackle Health aims to steer local schoolchildren towards a healthier lifestyle, hopefully leading to longer and happier lives. Now, if as a result of these sessions, some kids decide to become Pars fans rather than fans of Celtic or Rangers, so be it. 😁

GG, if ye could get Nurudeen to understand a shopping list I’ll add his name to my personal shoppers, and he’ll get an extra cake.

I do love my Pars neeburs.
