The partner of a Dunfermline football player who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer has revealed that her cancer has spread.
Rachel Borthwick, 36, is the partner of Graham Carey, who is currently on loan at Dunfermline Athletic from Livingston until the end of the season.
She has been going through a triple negative breast cancer diagnosis which began in October 2021. It recurred twice in 2023.

A GoFundMe page was previously started by Rachel’s sister, Sarah Borthwick, to raise funds for alternative treatment and “to alleviate some of the pressure and stress” Rachel was going through.
An update posted on Sunday, February 1 from Sarah revealed that her sister’s treatment is now “at a standstill” and that new tumours have grown.
It states: “Rachel has been receiving treatment in Germany and it would not have been possible without every bit of help we have had from you along the way.
“The majority of the funds have been used for treatment, flights, accommodation, scans, holistic medicines and off label drugs from overseas.
“The treatment has worked for the past 11 months but we are now at a standstill. New tumours have grown since treatment and have now spread to both lungs, bones and possibly her brain.
“We are awaiting an MRI but her vision has changed so we are very worried.
“Rachel now only has two options left, Trodelvy which is very strong chemo which she will receive here and a Cancer Centre in India which provides all treatments under one roof from traditional to holistic.
“The Cancer Centre requires 12 weeks of treatment and costs a minimum of 30-45K, this doesn`t include flights and accommodation.
“You have all given and done so much for our family already, but we are now asking for your help once more.”
The GoFundMe page has raised £139,649 so far, it has a target of £180,000.
Rachel has provided updates throughout her treatment on her Instagram page, on which she posted an update on February 2.
Her post states: “I’m sorry but I can’t reply to any messages at the moment. My vision has went quite bad and I have to strain my eyes to read and type.
“I can’t process any of this news at all and need time to try somehow. I am asking if EVERYONE can please share my GoFundMe link as much as possible and on every platform.
“Even if you can’t donate please just share it.
“I had to tell my kids this morning how bad things were and it was the most painful and horrendous thing I’ve ever had to do.”

It just goes to show that you aren`t always aware of what others are going through and fair play to him for continuing to play football.
Thoughts are with them all and I really hope that the treatment will be successful.

Awful, just awful. Poor girl 😔. Absolutely detest this godforsaken disease.
Went through similar, with a poor prognosis, and still here. Today's drugs are lifesavers, despite what thick sceptics may say.
Best wishes to you Rachel 🖤🤍❤️
