Changes to the Laws of the Game

From BBC Sport -

Players who receive treatment for an injury could be forced to stay off the field for one minute under proposals from Fifa. It is one of a number of measures to tackle tempo disruption and time lost which are set to be approved at the International Football Association Board (Ifab) annual general meeting on Saturday. At present there is no stipulation in the laws over how long injured players have to remain on the sidelines. Leagues have the right to set their own guidelines, with the Premier League adopting a 30-second rule since the 2023-24 season. Fifa held its own trials at the Arab Cup in December which required a player to stay off the field for two minutes.

Fifa referees` chief Pierluigi Collina says the two-minute rule is intended to reduce time-wasting and improve the flow of the game. It mirrors an approach taken by Major League Soccer, which is triggered if a player remains on the ground for more than 15 seconds and the physio comes on. At an Ifab meeting in January it was agreed a fixed period should be added to the laws, but there was disagreement over the length of time and strong pushback against two minutes.

Ifab is expected to approve video assistant referee reviews for wrongly awarded second yellow cards and, as a competition opt-in, corners.

So you get injured, so the team youre playing for are already disadvantaged - then you need to be off for potentially 1 or 2 minutes so further disadvantaged.

On the basis its a tackle, should the perpetrator also go off until the injured player comes back on?

Sadly, that will likely encourage cynical play acting - if you get fouled by the oppositions best player, and stay down, you get him off the park for two minutes as well.

Given you do not go off the field of play as long as treatment is administered in a timley manor in circumstances where the opposing player is cautioned/sent off it should cut down players going down just to kill the clock without impacting the real scenarios where injuries require treatment.

One rule that I hope they introduce, is to get rid of a staggered run up for penalties. Has to be a continuous run up.

As it stands, an injured player is not required to leave the field if he was fouled and the perpetrator was yellow- or red-carded and that will still be the case presumably.

What we need is any player goes down with a potential head knock they go off for 5 minute head injury assesment, purely for the players safety, a sub can come on till ,the player is given a yes or no .

Whilst i don`t disagree in theory, the player coming on has a higher chance of injury going on and then potentially off then potentially on again.
