We need a bit of experience in the defence. Benedictus
should come into the defence. We are too nieve at the
back. I know he`s a bit erratic at times, but also bring back
Chris Hamilton. We need his grit and determination.

Bene is a leader,
You can hear him chastise/encourage/organise/scream at the team for the whole game. He`s no shrinking violet when it comes to the Captains role.
If you want to be Captain material it takes more than wearing the armband.
You’ve seen the Pars now please go home!

Some fans want us to play with just two CBs and some want Bene to be recalled. Are these two views compatible?

I think Bene could also play in a central pair, there are not too many teams in the division that play with 2 pacey strikers or even 2 strikers. A lot of the goals we have conceded recently seem to be because of lapses of concentration or positional errors. Look at Thistle`s second last night, as simple long ball flicked on for a runner - even though Mullen, Abdulai and Ngwenya were all back in a central area to defend it. All of the centre backs are prone to fatal errors, Ngwenya got away with one last night when he put Lets`osa through on goal.

While no one can deny Bene`s indisputable leadership qualities, I`d be a bit apprehensive at chucking him in "at the deep end," so to speak. I can`t remember the last time he started a game. Is it not several months. There`s no way he can be match fit or match sharp, and will almost certainly be a bit "rusty."
I know the only way to become match fit is to play games, but my concern is that he might initially add to our defensive problems rather than solve them. Can we afford this?

Bene will be fit enough. Were giving away far too many
silly goals. We need his leadership qualities, and keep
the team alert.

Did their second goal not come from a ball over the top? The kind of ball that undoes Bene every time these days……

I was thinking, what are our performances since the Cup game v QOS when Jon became injured. I didn’t do the numbers but was interested in the stats.

A great captain but ever since his bad injury he’s well off the pace as we like to play a high back line. All it would take is a quick striker to play off Bene and he couldn’t cope with the pace now.

Bene will only be in match day squads to give encouragement and talk to players. I don’t think we’ll see him in a Pars shirt again apart from a farewell appearance in the Arbroath match.
Like said above he’s lost his pace and any striker with a bit of pace will leave him behind.
Folk may not like that but it’s a fact.

He`s been an excellent captain for us, best in a long time, but he`s physically shot the last 2 seasons alone been injured mostly.
When he came on against Ayr, he was great, but only because Ayr were just finishing off the game (a whole 45 mins!) and no one pressed him-I can`t see how he could play other than end of season farewell.

I like Bene but I feel we probably sit a bit back when he’s in defence.
He’s not got the pace to chase back.
The back two center backs seem to fit together well right now and allows Mullen to break up the park.
Bene would probably be ideal in a backs to the wall match such as Aberdeen ironically

I think he`s on loan to Bo`ness but it`s one of those arrangements where he can still play for us if required. Maybe the fact that it was a midweek match meant he was available to play if needed.

Davidson has obviously been recalled as the defender to come off the bench or replace one of the existing 3.
Just shows you how we went to a back 4 against Arbroath after Ngwenya was sent off at Morton and serving his suspension.
If he trusted Bene and wanted to keep a back 3 he would’ve came in, he obviously doesn’t hence why Davidson has been recalled.

Davidson is a co-op loan. He played for Bo’Ness at the weekend. You also can’t recall loans outwith the transfer window.

Hamilton is best in central midfield. Like Bene, he looks too slow when put in the back four. I was very disappointed in Partick`s second goal. Bene would have won the header and stopped the attack but as has been said, one on one with a pacey forward and he might be struggling. But he can be inspirational and could still be useful in a back four.

Bene is past his best. We have a good back 3 they just need to perform better and then they will improve. They also need to have confidence in their goalkeeper.

Bene has featured in 1 league game since September, a start against Ayr. Hooked at half time whilst being 3-0 down. The only other game he has featured in was in the 4-3 loss to QoTS where again he was hooked at half time. The only centre half who has looked droppable recently is JCM and given the fact that dropping him is unlikely to do our chances of keeping him beyond this season any good, I think we just persevere with who we have currently and hope that Oxborough can cut out the goalkeeping errors behind.

Bene came on at half time against Ayr didn`t he, rather than getting hooked.
We looked much better that day when he came on in my opinion. Much more organised, but the point above that Ayr changed their tactics could be valid.

You can’t really use the Ayr game as an example.
Ayr were 3 up at half time and just let us have the ball, defend and didn’t bother to attack.

You certainly can`t if your take is that he`s finished, albeit that doesn`t stop everyone.
He`s played 8 and a half league games this season and we`ve conceded 9 goals in those games. Whatever his deficiencies, it doesn`t appear that these were massively exploited by our opponents.
Also, off the top of my head, I reckon 4 of those goals were from shots from outside the box and of the others, our keepers managed to chuck in another couple (Munn at St. J and Terrell vs Ayr).

^^^^ Good post, DA-go. It`s made me think again about my post further up, but tbf, I wasn`t saying he`s finished, but rather questioning his match fitness after being out for so long.
I`d play him if we had no viable alternatives for his position, but I think we have the regular back 3 plus Turley ahead of Bene at this moment, and when Jon Tod returns to full fitness, he`ll be in the mix, too.
