 Projected final league table

Based on the points each team picked up in Q3 (latest game played between each club) and giving a draw for the o/s fixture between Ayr and QP would have the final league table as follows:

St Johnstone. 70 pts
Partick. 63 pts
Arbroath 55 pts
Dunfermline 49 pts
Ayr. 46 pts
Queens Park. 41 pts
Morton 40 pts
Raith 37 pts
Ross C 37 pts
Airdrie 35 pts

The wins at the weekend and last night should ease any worries we have about getting dragged into the relegation battle.

Going to be very tight at the bottom, the wee team’s inability to win matches could see them getting very worried as we approach the end of the season.

Obviously past performance is no indication of how teams will actually do in the final quarter.

I`m not sure we can assume that Q3 form wiĺl continue into Q4 in such an unpredictable league.

We gained 13 points in Q3 compared with only 9 from the equivalent games in Q1. It would be good to improve on the 14 points we won in Q2 in Q4.

One result of the last few games is that we have reversed the trend of winning more points away than at home. We now have 19 points from 14 home games compared with 17 points from 13 away games.

It does show that in general there isn’t much between most teams, with St Johnstone picking up most points (16) and Raith the least number (7). There is no reason to suggest any team is suddenly going to perform much better or much worse than in the previous quarter, so does provide a useful projection.

St Johnstone and Patrick battling to win league.

Dunfermline and Ayr battling for final play-off spot.

Bottom five scrapping for relegation.
