It`s Scholes for me because of that day.
I didn`t really get it until I saw him in person. Never seen a midfielder so influential on a team. He just knew where everyone was on the pitch at all times and had the passing range to find them.
Not a great tackler and didn`t head the ball but everything else was 11/10.

I remember Trevor Brooking playing at East End in a testimonial (George Cowie`s?). He had been retired for a few years by then but my recollection is that he completely dominated the game and never gave the ball away or was caught in possession - a real masterclass.

Richard Gough.
Must have been around 90/91 when Rangers came to EEP. Remember thinking " how on earth do you score against a team when he`s in the centre of defence?"
At a time when more of the game was played in the air, he was just imperious. I think they pumped us 5-0.

Trevor Brooking was a real classy player, but players in their prime would have to be in the Rangers era of Brian Laudrup.

Watching Henry leave Tod for dead was unbelievable. Never seen speed like that before or since.
Best skill I`ve seen is DiCanio taking the ball down while not breaking pace. Worst skill by a great player was Kanchelskis kicking the ground when trying to cross the ball. Hysterical until he volleyed the ball into the back of the net from outside the box.

Also always thought Hately would be a great player to have in your team.

I wasn`t old enough at the time to truly appreciate just how good he actually was - but I was at a game with my dad in the early 90s and we lost 0-5 to Motherwell and I said something about why we didnt stop their #11 (I think) and my dad just said.... son, thats Davie Cooper he`s done that to much better teams than Dunfermline.

Probably that Arsenal team that came up for a friendly. They brought the lot. Henry, Pires, Petit included.
Meanwhile we played a wee Dutch midfielder for the first time and I canāt remember his name š
