 Credit where it`s due

On the eve of the Partick 1st leg and the almost-eve of the cup final, I just wanted to press pause and give the club some credit for recent events.

Between the cup run, fixture shuffles and play-offs, they`ve had to run on the hoof for weeks and weeks now, delivering multiple ticket sales with very few hitches. Communication has been good throughout and we`re hearing very few grumbles about the actual delivery and execution of things. I think they deserve a lot of praise for this.

On the pitch, we`re maturing into a squad that`s difficult to beat in the big games. The young players are gaining unbelievable experience that will stand them in good stead for a promotion push next year, if the play offs don`t pan out for us. Neil Lennon and his team are getting way more right than they`re getting wrong, and is getting more likeable and more entrenched inside the Pars as the days go by.

I think back to the double header of away games last year v Falkirk and Rovers, two utterly dreadful performances, and if you could give me a window into where we`d be now, I`d have tried to buy whatever drugs you were on. It was definitely a "what`s the point of all this" moment to be a Par at the time and just incredible to witness the turnaround. Aberdeen & Falkirk games in particular (and getting to experience them with my kids) would make the most cynical of cynics fall in love with the game all over again.

If the next 2 or 3 weeks end in disappointment or - worse - heartbreak, then I want to focus on the fact we`re going in the right direction as a club for the first time in ages.

⬆️⬆️⬆️

Well said, I totally agree.

Off the field there has been huge pressure to get things right first time with all the short-notice tickets sales etc, and by and large that has been done well.

On the field the turn-round has been remarkable. TBH I think the odds are still quite heavily against our being promoted or winning the cup, but to reach mid-May with the possibility of BOTH being possible, and then the prospect of European football, is something that a year ago I just couldn`t see happening.

You are absolutely right. Those involved in the management and administration of these things deserve enormous praise. Even more so those that take on the stress and put in the hours as unpaid volunteers.

One thing always makes me shake my head though. People have, in the past, clamoured to get David Cook sacked on a regular basis when things haven`t been good on the park. But no-one gives the CEO any credit when things go well.

Goes with the territory I guess....

You would have to query the motives of those who were gunning for DC when things weren`t going so well. On the other hand, some folk just love a scapegoat.

Cook was very much a scapegoat for the previous administration and suspect his hands were tied. Now we are on the up and have good people at the club we can see by the professionalism and communication that he was not the problem.

This may be an unprecedented period in our history with cup final and play off games, but well done to all involved at the club for steering through and ensuring Pars fans are looked after.

The cheap play off tickets and the restrictions on cup final ticket sales while ensuring that genuine Pars fans will not miss out is fantastic.

Carrie has been like a breath of fresh air for our club. She has put in a tremendous effort to ensure that the process of buying tickets has been seamless for our supporters. Her and her team deserve a big pat on the back. This has been a very different season with cup semi and final games and all the playoff games. When fans are able to buy tickets with little or no effort, they generally do not think/realise the work that has gone on in the background to ensure that outcome. Well done the ticket/shop staff.

I see it as payoff for years of misery.

I want it all, the cup, promotion, Europe, everything.

It’s very easy to pick the negatives in life, but this a cracking thread to take note of where we are and how far we have come in a season, the club is being directed and managed by some very special people, we are on the way back

Just over a year ago, I walked away from East end smiling at the Hamilton Accies supporters who were enjoying their win and wondering how we would get out of trouble. Amazing the differences between both clubs in one season and shows the great efforts by everyone involved at the club. Well done!
