Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to announce that teenage striker Lucas Fyfe has signed a new 2 year contract with the club, with a further option to extend.
The 17-year-old has made a real impression during his debut campaign at first team level, making 12 appearances and etching his name into the club’s history books in the process. When he netted against Airdrieonians on 14th April at just 17 years and 39 days old, he became the sixth youngest goalscorer in Dunfermline Athletic’s history.
That evening at the Excelsior Stadium was one to remember. Lucas marked his first Championship start with a goal and an assist as Neil Lennon’s side came from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw, teeing up Josh Cooper’s header before turning home a Keith Bray cross with six minutes remaining to snatch a point.
Speaking about his contract extension, Lucas said he was thrilled by the news. “I’m delighted. I was surprised to be fair, but I’ve played quite a lot this season, so I mean, not unexpected, but not expected as well.”
He was equally warm in his praise for manager Neil Lennon, who has clearly seen enough in the youngster to back him for another two seasons.
