Unfortunately, due to inexplicably stupid legislation by the UK government, Yogi is unable to attend the final this year. I am too angry and upset to write a song.

New rules state that US/UK dual citizens like me can only enter the UK on a British passport.
My British passport expired a few years ago and I didn`t yet renew it because I didn`t really think I had to. Given the short time frame I don`t have time to renew it now. Frankly, until I started trying to plan my trip to the final I knew nothing of this nonsense.

I even contacted the Dunfermline and Dollar MP`s office, but was essentially told "sucks to be you, these are the new rules and you should have known." I then wrote back to ask what exact problem this new law was trying to solve, but received no response.

The ironic thing is that my American wife can come to Scotland on her US Passport, but I can`t come in using mine. Utter madness.

Long story short, no new song for now.
😡

Sorry to hear Yogi legislation gone mad, but you voice will be blasting out on a lot of the Pars buses going to Hampden.

Thanks, Par.

Whenever I try to explain this to anyone, it usually takes me about three tries, as no-one can actually believe what they`re hearing.

Not surprised by the attitude of our local MP, the guys a cretin, the worst representative we have ever had (and we`ve had Thomas Docherty).

Maybe if you also had an Israeli passport he`d be interested

I thought you could enter the UK on a non British/Irish passport if you apply for the ETA “visa” ?

£20 I believe ?

The new legislation applies to all not just dual UK/US nationals.

Yogi, feel your annoyance about the passports. I got my British passport renewed last year and this year I got my kids British passports. They have never had British passports before despite a few trips to the UK in the past but the new rules make it more expensive for dual nationals as you know. It just seems not very well thought out. My American wife not a dual national so can use the ETA visa

I have heard that if you have an expired British passport that will be acceptable short term alternate travel document, but not sure if that was last year, I know they have really tightened up on it and takes one trip to be refused boarding by an airline to make it a disaster.

If it’s any small consolation the passport application process is way better than it used to be when we had to get it renewed through the embassy in Washington DC. Online application, have someone confirm who you are, courier docs over and I got passports back by courier in around three weeks.

VeteranEastender if you are a dual national you can’t even apply for an ETA visa. I have to use my U.S. passport to leave and enter the U.S. as per U.S. law but now I need a British Passport as well in order to enter the UK. I cannot enter on my U.S. passport anymore without an ETA visa and I don’t qualify for an ETA visa. They quietly introduced last year but they really starting enforcing it for dual nationals at the end of February this year and the airlines specifically checking. (They get fined if they allow someone to travel without proper credentials). Anyway I do feel sorry for anyone caught cold by the legislation. It’s definitely an extra hurdle. I’m glad I double checked so I could bring my US born teenage son over for the final, booked flights in March and had to start passport process for him then.

Is a backdoor entry flying into Dublin, train to Belfast, flight to Edinburgh not a workaround in this case?

1. Nice remake, Skerlas, get that belting out good and loud. My apologies again for not coming up with a new song for the occasion, but I really am too pissed off to give it my best, so better to leave it than to half-ass it. How about I do a celebratory tune if we win?

2. Regarding the travel issues, you may be right about the "Irish end-run", but if it didn`t work for whatever reason then I`d be doubly screwed.

3. Apparently the expired passport possibility is no longer being honoured.
In any case it was still formally illegal and totally at the discretion of the airlines, and the major US carriers never said publicly that they would honour it.

In any case, best of luck to you all and have a great day on Saturday. I`ll be there in spirit, at least. COYP.
