Wasn`t he the ref who ignored VAR advice in the recent M`well v Hearts match to award Hearts a penalty and stuck with his onfield decision, a decision which the review panel subsequently admitted was wrong?

So they have appointed a ref that they openly admitted on Saturday made a massive error in a vital game for the league title the week before to the cup final……..
Brilliant 🤦🏻♂️

Pretty much but does that really surprise you given how much of a shambles the sfa is I mean they don’t have a history of rewarding incompetence

Yep, rewarding a referee who they`ve just said made a monumental error. Good stuff.

Problem is every single ref has had massive screw ups this season.
Can`t go Beaton after the Nicholson handball. Can`t go Robertson given he had Celtics last game - even though he reffed it ok.
MacLean or Walsh were the next in line.

I can`t see any official announcement that Steven McLean is the Cup Final referee. Does anyone have a link?

It’s posted on the SFA referee appointments page on the SFA official website. It’s quite a slog to find it though.
Honestly don’t think McLean is one of the worst, he was in charge when we beat Hibs in the earlier round.

Referee appointments on the SFA website are a nightmare to negotiate now. Every single competition is listed and the professional games are just lost in the mess. It`s almost as if they don`t want us to find what we`re looking for!

I`ve always thought that as well. The drop down should have the professional leagues at the top.

maybe if using on your phone but if you select the clubs drop down it lets you type/search to scroll to club you want.
"a decision which the review panel subsequently admitted was wrong?"
the review panel is a waste of time. Its made up of pundits/coaches/former players, no requirement to be qualified in laws of the game but giving an opinion on implementation of laws of the game. For the incident in question could be Ryan Stevenson/Alan Preston/John Robertson as your KMI panel.

Well, that was the only VAR decision they disagreed with and it was by a majority of 2 to 1 rather than unanimous. It`s easy to question the make-up of the panel when you don`t actually know who they are but you can also understand why they don`t make their names public.

Actually, if it is to be the same referee who has been publicly told that he made a mistake by deciding in favour of Celtic a couple of weeks ago, that just might favour us in a borderline decision on Saturday.
