We had a player called up for international duty with T&T last year too. Ironically it was Andre Raymond, who was brought in on loan from St Johnstone to replace Kieran at left back.

Ngwenya made his debut against South Korea in salt lake city. He played 90 minutes in a 5-0 defeat.
Son Heung-min played and scored a brace. That would certainly have been a test for the lad!

There is a 12 min highlights clip of the game online. Ngwenya (number 4) playing LCB in a back 3 and seemed to do well. A couple of good interceptions early on, decent positioning etc. Don`t think he was at fault for any of the goals, two of which were penalties, one soft IMHO.
S Korea look strong but TT seemed to hold them for much of the first half. Some of Kieran`s team mates look a bit naive, as you might expect, but he seemed to give a good account of himself. Well done that man. What an experience to play against Son!

Maybe losing players to St Mirren and St Johnstone is a reality check for some fans on us being a big club. Lennon got his work cut out…..the attraction of “playing for” him maybe isn’t all that.

You`re a Pars fan, Generalissimo, and it shows. 😁
Kieran Ngwenya is a professional footballer and just like Matty Todd, he has to look after No 1. It`s all very well you suggesting that a potential title push in the Championship is a more enjoyable prospect than a potential relegation struggle in the Premiership, but you`re comparing apples and oranges. If all other variables were constant, I would agree with you, but they aren`t.
If he accepts St Mirren`s offer, he will undeniably be playing at a higher level, a challenge he would almost certainly find attractive. It`s also likely that St Mirren will be able to offer him a more lucrative deal, and given that they don`t need to pay a transfer fee, they might even offer him a decent signing on fee.
The parallels with Matty Todd`s move to St Johnstone are inescapable.
Eta. This notion that the Pars are a "bigger club" than the likes of St Mirren and St Johnstone is demonstrably untrue. These clubs are "bigger" because they play at a higher level and command a bigger budget. When we reach the Premiership and can boast higher average attendances, we can then make such a claim.
Not your average Sunday League player.

FIVE CLUB CHASE FOR £0 TRANSFER DEAL
FLW understands that the transfer target in question is Dumfermline Athletic defender Kieran Ngwenya, who has been linked with a number of clubs in recent times as he prepares to leave the Scottish second-tier side at the end of his contract this month.
Sources have revealed that Plymouth and Blackpool have now joined the race for Ngwenya`s services, with the pair looking to rival the likes of Motherwell, Orient and Burton Albion after they were all previously credited with interest by Football Insider`s Pete O`Rourke.
It`s understood, however, that Plymouth and Blackpool are only facing further competition in their pursuit of the highly-rated 23-year-old.
That`s because FLW has also learned that two more Scottish Premiership suitors in Dundee FC and St. Mirren are in the race for Ngwenya after the central defender caught the eye at Dumfermline in the second-tier last time out, while Orient`s interest has also persisted.
Ngwenya, who previously earned a solitary cap for Malawi in 2021 but debuted with the Trinidad and Tobago national side against South Korea just last week, made 27 appearances across all competitions in the 25/26 season, scoring four times in league action.
The Glasgow-born defender came through Aberdeen`s ranks, though he fell short of making the grade at Pittodrie and has instead made a name for himself in the Scottish Championship, where he has accumulated a wealth of experience in recent seasons.
Now seeking a new challenge, it will be interesting to see where the Trinidad and Tobago international ends up in the coming weeks and months

higher wages, and if the move is successful he could step up to the Championship.
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that he’ll be away and wish him all the best. Cannot begrudge him moving when everyone, fans and management included, had him on the release-list before Christmas.

If English League or Scottish Premiership clubs are alerted it`s difficult to compete, especially if they don`t need to pay a transfer fee.

No reality check for me. It’s a higher level. I do agree with you on Lennon not being able to attract players though. He’ll have to get moving quickly though as I can’t see us spending another two seasons in the championship running at such a loss. Need to get out of this division fast with that sort of debt. Other teams moving quickly.

I think realistically we need to be looking at finishing top of this division this year. I agree we may have been caught out by the 1 year deal arrangement, that assumes that players will have some incentive to improve under coaching then have some loyalty at the end of the season to sign another deal. Whether they do so us a complex mix of personal preference, future career prospects, money, personal circumstances etc.
In terms of NL not being able to attract players, I would qualify that by saying, he won`t attract the wrong player. He clearly wants to succeed and take the Pars up, so he will want winners and players who want to progress from the championship to the premiership

6 months ago was the beginning of December. Absolutely no-one was suggesting that we offered Ngwenya a new contract at that point.

What is this so called “merry-go-round” though? This just seems like an excuse for us not getting our signings in quickly enough.
St Johnstone last season had Baird,Smith,Tumilty,Holt,Stanton,Gullan etc and still won the league pretty easily. You could class all those players as on the “merry-go-round”.
I’m looking forward to see who we can bring in but it takes a mix. Not just a lot of unheard of names. Unless we want to finish fourth again that is.

If you`d offered him a new deal at least 6 months ago you would have shown remarkable foresight. My recollection is that the start of his re-emergence was in the 2-3 home defeat to Ayr just before Christmas when he played at CB and scored both our goals, his first in senior football. He became a fixture after that and a bit of a goal threat but I think it took a wee while for fans to acknowledge his consistency.

His situation is of a similar vein to Matty Todd as there were disagreements with regards to their attitude and lack of acceptance to the change the way the squad was operating
After sit down talks both parties agreed that they would set aside differences for the team and their own benefit
Unfortunately these disagreements have always been simmering underneath and although new contracts have been on the table they have been looking elsewhere for a while
Ngwenya hasn`t always been that cut and dried but he does realise that he could get a really lucrative deal, so if that comes to fruition he will go

"Merry go round" is just another daft football term, up there with `marquee signing`. There isn`t one signing made by a Championship team so far that I`d take at EEP.
We`ve offered deals to JCM and Ngwenya that probably would make them two of our higher earners. I`d expect the club to have given them a deadline to sign or move on so we can do the same. If they do sign, we`re fine at centre back. If they don`t, centre back moves higher up our list of priorities for reinforcements.
We can`t really make any moves until their futures are settled due to the finances involved. From what I`m seeing, we haven`t missed out on much.

Why can`t the usual suspects simply scroll past a post if they have nothing to contribute other than taking cheap shots at other posters?
One of the reasons people are no longer bothering to post on here is that the majority of topics end up descending into playground style point scoring, which usually has nothing to do with the original post.
Back on to the title of the thread. I would expect decisions on Ngwenya and JCM within the next 10 days or so. That should give us enough time to identify and secure replacements if required.

I`m worried about the relative lateness of things.... feels like it makes it a bit more likely that a loan then might be the answer, which brings its own problems.
Hopefully we can get this year sorted as a two year project and give a bit more stability. Ideally with the guys staying.

NL saying on PLZ in an interview following the Bolivia game saying that he thinks he will lose a few players, but really enjoyed the season. Hopes to improve on the gap on 1st/2nd over last season but states its a tough league.

Berkey there might not be much difference in money terms maybe a signing on fee might be a bit different but the main factor will be top flight football it’s all well and good saying we are on the up and could go up next season but we all know football isn’t like that we could balls it all up and be spending another year in the championship and people like ngwenya then miss out on the chance to play in the top flight
