Injured!
From COWS
The club can confirm that prior to Saturday’s match Chris Kane sustained an injury that meant he was only able to feature from the bench for the showpiece final at Hampden Park.
We expect Chris to be sidelined for 6-10 weeks and he will continue his rehabilitation with the medical and sports science departments when the players return for pre season.

Timing is prob the best it could be, plenty time to bring another striker in and rudden will also be fit. Another season of managing Kane ahead

It’s an area that’s needed addressed for years.
Need more options up top.
Would love Simon Murray as one.

We did address it but both Rudden and Thomas incurred injuries, Rudden on two separate occasions.

Ffs, this is just unlucky, Kane left it all on the field for our run in the league and cup, proving his worth for the new contract.
Sometimes it is what it is, his replacements got injured too mind.

I don’t want to speculate but I wonder if Kane has been somehow playing through the pain barrier to help the team? He deserves a contract if so. The commitment from him is fantastic.

No one can doubt Kane`s commitment to the club. He worked tirelessly and gave his absolute all on the field 🙏

If we have any luck with forwards, it`s no luck.
Are any of Usyk, The Terminator or Robocop available?

This. I was surprised he played so much in the run-in, unfortunately his commitment to the cause has come at a cost to him. Hopefully back sooner than predicted.

The Courier is saying the injury is a hamstring issue and not related to the problems he`s had with his calves. I`m not sure if that`s good news or bad news!

The guy must be hard as nails.
He shows no sign of injury during games and gives 100% every game.
I imagine Lennon will be really disappointed that`ll Kane will miss a lot of preseason. He`s mentioned a few times in interview that it is the foundation, suggesting guys who`d come in later were picking up muscle injuries because they`d missed it.
Another good reason to do your business early.

There have been alot of games and in a short space of time. Six of those games have been the cup or playoffs so alot of physical exertion

Hopefully Rudden can stay fit for the full season. Looks like Kane might need nursed into the season again. We really need another striker in soon. We need to get off to a flyer in the league if we want a go at being champions.
I wonder if we could get a bid in for Oli Shaw still got a year on his contract but might be worth punt.

Rudden looked pretty sharp at Hampden.

Jake Sutherland is the one who might kick on this preseason but with the injury to Kane all the young forwards will get more of an opportunity to show what they can do now.
i dont see two forwards coming in never mind experienced ones, we do need to find a similar type to a McCann/Stewart/Thomas though which we dont have in the squad.

You`d imagine Olly Thomas could be one of them. He`s not going to be playing in the first team at Bristol City and was beginning to find his feet with us before the injury.

His second goal against Aberdeen is one of the best individual goals scored at EEP.

Why not? Injuries can happen at any time to any player. This one doesn`t seem to be linked to his calf problems but is a hamstring issue.

He is a penalty box striker and scpred some important goals. Bags of experience and once back from injury will make a good contribution next season. Obviously we need another striker in the door, but good strikers willing to come to EEP will be thin on the ground. Hopefully we can bring Olly Thomas back up if he has recovered from injury.

Not so thin after a season showing our potential.

To call Chris Kane a penalty box striker is vastly demeaning of his talents a penalty box striker is someone like a shankland if you watched the Scotland game yesterday didn’t do much but when you gave him a chance in the box he put it away
Chris Kane on the other hand reads the game well knows when to bring the ball down play the pass involve his team mates

I thought I was paying him a compliment with his ability to create space in andaround the box. I was merely commenting on his ability to score goals rather than his other attributes.

I`ve caught a few hearts games this season (when they were pushing fit the title)and I`d say Shankland has evolved his game to offering much more all round. His linkup play is night and day to when he was with us for example.

Chris Kane is our best player. If he is playing the team is 10x better than when he is not playing. If he’s out injured now he must have been playing injured in the playoffs and in the final, but still gave his all and battled hard.

We lose any sort of goal threat when Kane isn’t playing, and that was evident when he was subbed off against Partick and during the first half of the Scottish Cup final. We also lack physicality when we don’t have players like Kane and Rudden available.
We were quite unfortunate to lose three similar types of player Kane, Rudden, and Thomas and at such a critical point in the season.
This is Andy Tod`s world and we are lucky to live in it.
