Hang on , .... Am I right in saying that I`ve got three opening ceremonies to sit through before I get some football?

Unfortunately there is only one outcome that will remove all trace of 1966 from major Football events on the TV.
You’ve seen the Pars now please go home!

It started at half 6 and ran for an hour and a half. It wasn’t televised though.

GOALLLLLLLLL
Mehico!
When the teams came up I misread that defender`s name and had an "h" in it.
The first couple of minutes was like they were reenacting that game from the Simpsons.

Great start to the World Cup. You like to see something a bit mental like that with all the red cards to kick it all off.

I liked the Mexican red card, whilst realistically it should’ve been a yellow, always felt a red was warranted for such a blatant no attempt to win the ball in that area of the pitch.

I`m with you on that. Cynical fouls like that should be reds in my view. I hope that standard continues throughout the tournament.

2nd half of South Korea v Czechia was a good listen! Koreas first is a thing of beauty.

That second red for South Africa was never a red card and should have been a foul for them instead.
The Mexican deliberately tried to block the run of the attacking player twice and the South African was simply trying to get beat the obstruction
If that’s how they’re going to ref it, coupled with all the histrionics when a player is touched, then don’t think this tournament is for me tbh

Yeah - I`m pleased with the second red for Mexico. I`ve always felt that type of cynical foul to stop a promising break should be a red. Absolutely no intention to win the ball.
The South African reds - the first one, I`m not sure what the guy is meant to do, he doesn`t change his running line, and actively tries to avoid making contact and the Mexican lad changes his line to initiate the contact. I get why it`s a red, but it feels really unlucky. Perhaps it`s `smart` play by Guttieriez.
The second one annoys me - he was clearly obstructed, the ref has a clear view, doesn`t give it, then he`s obstructed again and he tries to pull him out of the way, and makes light contact with the face. Not enough for a red for me, but in the rules it is. One those things where if the ref had called the initial foul, like he should have done, nothing would have happened - so that`s poor refereeing for me.

I said the same. Refs need to be instructed to stamp out these cynical types of fouls IMHO. By issuing yellows they are condoning them and there definitely seems to be more of them in the modern game.

Interesting seeing the English broadcasters who previously gave it the "why do Scots not support us? We`d want them to do well." Now pulling a U-turn and NOT supporting us after all. Belters 😂

I really detest the "good yellow to take" attitude. Seeing a creative player bursting through midfield and being cynically scythed down, just doesn`t float my boat. It plays into the hands of calculated hatchet men and the yellow card punishment just doesn`t fit the crime.

I like hatchet men. You can stick your Messi`s and Cruyff`s, give me Vinnie Jones and Pablo Alfaro all day long. VAR has virtually ruined the game by having too many extra eyes on the masters of the dark arts
