Sean Dillon has made history as the oldest EVER outfield player in SPFL history. The Irishman featured for Montrose at the age of 43 and 16 days, after coming on in the 83rd minute in the club’s 3-0 loss against Alloa Athletic on 15 August.
He is only the second outfield 43-year-old to play in the SPFL era and replaces the previous high set by ex-Scotland star Colin Cameron. Cameron was 43 years old and eight days when he played his last game for Berwick Rangers in a 4-1 defeat against Montrose in October 2015.
Dillon was an unused sub in Montrose`s 3-0 home win over E Kilbride on Saturday. Montrose now have quite a Pars` connection with Stewart Petrie as manager and Cammy Gill, Ryan Williamson and Shaun Byrne on the playing staff along with Jake Sutherland who is on loan from us this season.
