This has taken so long that I`d almost forgotten about it. It must have been due to the sheer number of charges brought against the club. You have to think the punishment meted out will be off the scale. I feel sorry for City`s fans, who are completely innocent in all of this.

Even if the charges are halved after appeal, City could potentially be looking at losing multiple league titles and compensation running into the hundreds of millions for teams that lost out on Champions League places etc.
Major points deduction and automatic relegation as a result a very real possibility but how far will the EPL go I wonder.
Remember Everton only breached one rule and got an 8 point deduction!
This is 114!

I don’t think so.
I can see where cynicism comes into your thinking but we are unlikely to ever see such a charge meted out ever again and to casually dismiss the seriousness of what they are charged with, how can the English authorities deal with much less serious situations in the future.
I’ve mentioned Everton who only breached one rule for example and ended up eventually with an 8 point deduction.

From Aunty :-

An appeal from City is expected to be a formality.

City`s legal team is being led by Lord Pannick KC, who is reported to charge £5,000 an hour for his services. He helped City overturn their two-year European ban in 2020.

<Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson speaking to BBC 5 Live: "It`s incredibly serious. A complete finding for the Premier League clearly makes it even worse. You`ve now got a situation where this is going to go to a sanction hearing, which will look at what the punishment should be.
It will be going with the worst possible set of circumstances to that sanction hearing, City guilty of everything. With built-in aggravating factors such as the non-cooperation, the nature of the charges that we believe are now proved or such that they will demand very severe punishment.
"And when we see the five, six, seven-hundred-page decision, you can expect it to say some really quite serious things about the people who have given evidence and the way in which Manchester City have behaved.">

The report will be interesting going by that. They’ve cheated to win 8 trophies. 3 Premier Leagues 3 League cups a FA Cup and a Charity Shield. If the punishment is one that means they are still in the EPL next year then it’s open season for the other clubs. Why will any of them adhere to FFP rules when you can cheat on this scale and get away with it?

You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Pep Guardiola. But as far as I`m concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest effing dustbin you can find, because you`ve never won any of them fairly. You`ve done it all by bloody cheating.

Got to give them the harshest of punishments - huge fines, huge point deductions/instant relegations, huge transfer bans…..make it so that if they win an appeal against some charges, the others stick.

The Italians done it in the Noughties, now the EPL have to do it.

The next interesting thing will be to see if the CPS/HMRC come after them - falsifying income/outgoings is pretty serious stuff….

I know they’re writing all their Scottish football is crap articles as I type this but genuinely don’t give a F.

It’s a tourist league that’s there to maximise profits. It’s full of fraud and money laundering. They need to relegate Man City. I don’t know how it works with the football league but a points deduction to guarantee relegation if they can’t kick them out.

Ended up listening to Gabby Abonglahor (if that’s how you spell it) and he was 100% correct. City took their best player 3 times during that period and they done that to other clubs as well. They weren’t just cheating out whoever finished 2nd. Their transfers were affecting the entire league.

Funnily enough NMC I have seen a couple of articles today, The Telegraph in particular, absolutely putting the boot in to Scottish football, it`s almost as if they have had them ready to go, to try and deflect from the fact that the english tourist league is corrupt to the core. Clubs have sold out their real fans, sold out to disgusting states sportwashing, American billionaires that can`t afford an NFL franchise, money laundering, it`s not a real sport down there anymore

Is it just me or are there similarities between what City have done and what Rangers did during the Souness/Smith era? Rangers were giving their players EBTs, disguised as loans, which they never needed to repay. No different apart from the sheer scale in City`s case. Cheating is cheating and no number of wrongs make a right.
IIRC, Rangers were not punished for the EBTs, they were liquidated for failing to pay tax owed to HMRC.

An the EBT bit doesn`t mean there wasn`t some deal done. Not much point in incurring a huge amount of cost just for the entity to declare itself bankrupt and be left with the legal fees to pay from public funds.

That was the most blunderous PR opportunity blown ever. Both clubs are generally despised but the rangers were always going to coast through the leagues and they had 2 options

- 1 was to do it with dignity and build, not support, but maybe empathy and tolerance across the country as all clubs benefited from them being there and building a new & different brand that is not built on hate or
- 2 do it snarling whining crying and bleating like giant man babies cementing the position forevermore in a position that right minded individuals can’t put a piece of paper between the contempt they hold for both.

I don’t think fan feeling was driven by the crime, it was driven by the response of the football hierarchy and the behaviour of the club itselfs ‘leaders’ which in turn fuelled their brain dead fans

I had a quick look through previous league finishes. I suspect Liverpool and Arsenal fans will be most aggrieved.

It is so deep though.... managers will have lost their jobs. I am sure there will be more than one club who could argue their results against Man City got them relegated. Managers will have been sacked. A club might not have been relegated if Man City had admitted wrong doing earlier and faced a points reduction in a one-r.

If Southampton were punished so harshly for having some bloke standing next to a tree then I can`t see how this should result in anything other than everything being stripped from the period that applies (including cups and European stuff) and getting moved to the bottom of the leagues and starting again.

And there are criminal charges over those false accounts that were signed off....

I agree that City`s cheating is off the scale compared to Rangers, but both clubs did this to gain an unfair advantage over their rivals. I don`t think we can say "Oh, Rangers only cheated a little bit." They cheated enough to tip the balance in their favour and win 9 titles in a row, which they have been allowed to keep.

I wonder if City will be stripped of their trophies. Inter apparently wanted to be awarded a cardboard CL trophy after losing to City in the 2023 final. 🙄😚

In the real world, City are cooked. They are finished. Unfortunately the EPL isn’t the real world, and this will drag on for years yet.

Differs from the Rangers saga as they got wound up by HMRC and went defunct. Although that may happen to City when the books are re altered.

Stefan Bornstein? Said today that it all relies on the outcome of their appeal over the £830m scam sponsor payments. If they win that, it’s huge. He doubts they will win it though as City’s witnesses were classed as unreliable/untruthful and they cant be pulled up in the appeal process either. So they are pretty much scunnered with that too.

What a shame……🫢😂

Etihad Airways are considering legal action against the PL with an equally powerful statement.
The plot thickens.

“Etihad categorically rejects any finding, conclusion or implication that suggests the airline has ever been involved in improper commercial arrangements,” the statement read.

“At no time did the Premier League reach out to or engage with Etihad in the process associated with the Commission’s opinion.

“Etihad was therefore never given the opportunity by the Premier League to be represented, to provide relevant information, or to ensure the accuracy and fairness of information relied upon in reaching conclusions that may now be interpreted as reflecting adversely on the airline.

“The lack of clarity and transparency, together with the selective disclosure of information, has created damaging implications for Etihad despite the airline not being named in the published decision,” it said.

“The Premier League must take responsibility for the consequences of the way in which these findings have been presented.

“We stand with the club, its supporters and our wider Etihad community as Manchester City challenges the commission’s conclusions through the processes available to it.

“Etihad will seek the relevant legal counsel on the options and recourse available to protect its interests.”

The PL`s findings are pretty damning, yet the responses from City and now its major sponsor are very feisty. Why would they react in this manner if they don`t have a proverbial leg to stand on? Is it just one gigantic bluff, or has the PL cocked up its investigation and City`s lawyers have discovered a legal loophole? We should find out soon enough when City submits its appeal by tomorrow. And is the PL within its rights to demand that the appeal has to be delivered so soon? What if City`s lawyers say they need more time to prepare it?

Another interesting fact is that Andy Burnham told the BBC he would be very concerned if City`s owners walked away and sold the club. He added that the PL had treated Everton very unfairly. What can we read into that?

Burnham will be most worried about the growth in Manchester. The credit he keeps taking for fixing Manchester to a greater extent than the rest of the UK was very much based on the UAE investment. He definitely won`t want them walking away.

I don`t quite get their arguments that they haven`t had a chance to input to the decision. This has been going on for years, and much longer than other clubs. I think it would be most accurate for both the entities to say that they don`t like the outcome of the process rather than they haven`t had a chance to input.

The appeal process allows them to appeal immediately. They are pushing for a quick decision so they know where they stand. No doubt they will be acting in the background to put pressure on decision makers.

City were able to take UEFA to CAS regarding their judgement - they cant do that this time around.

As was mentioned by Simon Jordan today, why were Etihad not called upon by City as a witness for the defence, if everything was squeaky clean? The independent commission had zero need to go to them for clarity.

Remember this ruling has been made by 3 independent judges based on the evidence provided, its not a PL panel that has come to the judgement.

They did have a point about that if City go down, they will try to take down everyone else with them. This will be a dark stain on the English game for years to come and its quite amusing.

From the Beeb

Manchester City has until Friday, October 2, 2026, to officially file their appeal against the ruling.

Once an appeal is filed, a new three-person commission will review the case. Regulations suggest appeals can take up to 12 weeks, followed by a decision within 30 days, though timelines can vary.

Tonight It’s believed that the basis of city’s appeal will be their claim that the additional funds (£990m) over the 10 year period in question were provided by the govt of UAE and not Sheikh Mansour via sponsors. By all accounts govt funding is allowed with several examples in the premier league? They claim irrefutable evidence of this as their defence. However, this is the first time they have declared this and it’s thought the appeal committee will look upon it as further evidence that city are making it up as they go along. Also no new evidence is allowed at appeal stage. Andy Burnhams comments are also being viewed with suspicion by some journalists, questioning whether any deals City made with The mayor of Manchester would survive scrutiny. Get the pop corn in this is going to run and run.

Andy Burnham`s getting heavily embroiled in this now. The Lib Dems want details of all meetings he`s had with the Man City owners and hospitality he`s enjoyed at their expense. For a PM he`s a bit too ready to open his mouth and let his belly rumble.

To be fair, when you listen to the Abu Dhabi statement, its effectively blackmail to the UK government/Premier League - “you punish City too harshly, we will pull out financial investments in your country”

Maybe these guys weren’t as “fit and proper” as assumed.

City`s owners and their UAE sponsors should have remembered that if you always tell the truth you don`t need to have a good memory. Just yesterday Etihad Airways claimed that the their sponsorship of Man City was paid for by the UAE government. However written statements submitted to the US government in 2015 by the Airliner stated.
"The assertion that the Abu Dhabi government paid for Etihad’s sponsorship of English Premier League football club Manchester City is false. In 2011, Etihad and Manchester City entered into a 10-year sponsorship agreement, which included naming rights for Manchester City’s stadium. Etihad funded this sponsorship from its own liquidity.”

And although my eyes were open
They just might as well be closed

Could this be the downfall of Burnham?

I believe Man City have been putting a lot back into the community, is there some kind of conspiracy that Burnham turned a blind eye to win favour with voters if Man City were funding things around the Manchester? I’m totally spit balling, have no evidence. I’m just predicting/surmising what might come out of it.

I’ve not even fully thought it out before writing 🤣

Don`t worry, NMC. It`ll be factually true before the weekend`s over. 😀

If Burnham just stays out of it, he will be fine. If he panders to the blackmaillers, it could get messy - quick.

This time next year Rodney

How long will City`s appeal take?

The commission was made up of three people, each with many years` experience in the legal field.
The appeal will now be heard in private by a new, three-person independent commission panel, each with a similar expert background in law.
One section of the Premier League regulations says that an appeal hearing should conclude within 12 weeks of it being heard, and a decision communicated within 30 days of that.
Twelve weeks from Thursday – when City say they lodged the appeal – would be 24 December.
But this timeframe can also be disapplied if deemed necessary, meaning it remains uncertain how long the process will actually take.
The relevant regulation was only added to the rule book this summer.
Previous precedent suggests that sanctions against City will only be imposed after a decision on the appeal, though this is not guaranteed.
There could therefore also be a second appeal later down the line, against any sanctions imposed on the club.

They were talking about the appeal being assessed in 30 days. Then it moved to "some time after Christmas, but City want it sorted before end of the season so they know what they are doing". But I think they`ll have the right to take it to the High Court. At which point you are talking years. I think the City position of "we want it sorted by end of the season" is simply trying to put pressure on a decision in their favour. If they don`t like the decision I am sure they will appeal it, no matter the impact on timing.

I think it will be done by the end of the season.

The appeals process cant bring any additional evidence or witnesses - it’s literally just 3 new judges reading over the judgement papers and either agreeing or disagreeing with the final verdicts. They don’t have to go through the 3/4 years worth of documents etc to reach a new verdict.

The High Court may take a bit longer, but can imagine it would be a sped up trial to get it finished with. If City had this “irrefutable evidence” where has it been for the last 4 years?

They’ve been caught with their trousers down and are scrambling not just for this season, but for the clubs future existence. This could easily end Man City as an entity.
