I see the US are not happy that someone else has bought stuff from someone else, funnily enough? Or am I missing the simplicity of it ?

It's got something to do with sanctions imposed after Russia invaded Ukraine and seized it's territory.

Crimea was not owned by itself.
It was a semi autonomous region of Ukraine.
It was gifted to Ukraine by Russian leader Kruschev in 1954.
